Where the wind comes sweepin' from the plains - blowing two new faces from America, who wish to try out French boules, choosing the City of Bath club to cast three at a little French Jack.

Bill was born in OK and his wife Jane, is a fine English Rose, we hope to bud on and grow her once again in our English fields.

But what of American Bill from Oklahoma; I shook his hand in double clutch, to greet this man saying; we both belong to the land And the land we belong to is grand! And when we say Yeeow! Ayipioeeay!
We're only saying' You're doing fine, Oklahoma! Oklahoma O.K.

Why is your roaming reporter so excited to meet Bill Street and his wife Jane. Some might already know that my nephew Billy A Mickle was once the Senator of Oklahoma. A child of my sister Gwen.

With the warmest of English welcomes, Bill and Jane to our Boules club; one of the best in the west that you chose to walk into. A line from Casablanca,

2025 Club awards were presented after the Shotgun Tournament.. Whilst many were absent we still wanted to share and celebrate the results.
It is only Gold winners that received cups.

City of Bath Pétanque Clubs first ever Shotgun tournament is underway. Ten teams of Triple’s playing 5 rounds of Swiss currently playing round 2 so still all to play for.. Who will be victorious which team do you fancy? See later for results.

City of Bath Pétanque Club held its September Open Melee today. 37 players played 4 rounds of 25mins each.. It was nice to welcome some first timers and we hope to see them again.

1st Place went to Pete.
2nd to Bruce.
3rd to Adam..

One step forward for man by Terry

One giant idea for a great Pétanque club meal after a game.

I refer of course to ‘Moules and Boules’ is a popular social event format, that combines eating fresh mussels, with playing the traditional French game of Boules.

Moules in season traditionally runs from September to April, following the classic rule to eat shellfish only in months with an "R".

I cannot remember in all the years I have belonged to our club; have we put on a moules and boules supper – a winter treat before the red berry and mistletoe are picked.

A French stick loaf - single cream – and a sprinkle of fresh parsley steamed in a splash of white wine. Along with best mussels, that come from regions with cold, clean, and nutrient-rich tidal waters that support abundant phytoplankton.

All washed down with a French wine from Aix en Provence. Perhaps; - a slightly chilled Sancerre ?

I do hope our social team on our committee get to read my love letter to cheap fine club dining.

A unrecognised Power by Terry

Of a boule bag- play on !

Taking a singles holiday in say Almuncar in Spain; might be considered fun ?

Unless you need company to share with.

Taking an early morning stroll along the beachhead, holding your boules kitbag.

You might be approached by two gorgeous flower sellers; wanting you to buy or likely to pick a pocket or two. Or to sell you a fresh morning Spanish buttonhole.

Passing on from this morning enchantment - seeking a flat stone wall capping to sit on, overlooking the outgoing tide, revealing natures perfect Pétanque Piste.

Sitting alone like a tribally deserted Barbary Ape. The power of my boules bag unknowingly starts to emit Radio Ga Ga calling .

People of all languages suddenly appear with three boules clapping, ready to join you in our most social game the world over.

Proving you are never truly alone if you carry a boules bag around on on holiday.

Several of the our players represented Great Western Region over the weekend at Pétanque England’s Inter Regional Event at Sand Bay. GWR were victorious in winning Div 2 of the Championship which means promotion to Div 1 for next year. In addition to that a City of Bath Team, Cary Bush, Steve Charman, Adrian Williams and Bryan Huish were Top Team by winning all of their 11 games over the weekend.
