Method to the madness 😵💫.
Pad work without purpose can be pointless and often leads to bad habits,a specific objective will usually make the pad rounds more effective.
Bad pad work can include long, unrealistic combinations that would never realistically be used in sparring or a fight.
Another example is a stationary pad holder who doesn’t make you work on distancing, angles, and movement while striking.
Finally, there should always be defensive responsibility during pad work. Dropping your hands during combinations isn’t acceptable in a fight, so it shouldn’t be acceptable in training either.
Always train with purpose.
Whether you’re working reactive shots after missing your initial attack, dealing with a pressure heavy pad man that forces you to stay defensive and counter strike on the back foot , or switching it up when they suddenly become evasive so you have to use footwork to create openings and land clean shots….its not always pretty pad work but it’s more realistic.
And sometimes you gotta just blast the pads for that sickening cardio as well 😉.
