Rock Blading is an advanced manual therapy treatment technique which can be very affective in relieving different areas of pain throughout the body, these areas could be caused by chronic pain or sports injury. Rock Blading uses 3 pieces of metal, the โ€˜Malletโ€™, the โ€˜Mulletโ€™ and the โ€˜Mowhawkโ€™. All 3 of these tools work together to provide stimulus to areas of pain and pressure. The use of these tools can:

โ–ช๏ธRemove Scar Tissue
โ–ช๏ธImprove Muscle Function
โ–ช๏ธImprove Performance
โ–ช๏ธEliminate Pain

The technical term for this technique is Assisted Soft-Tissue Neurosensory Modulation (IASTM). Rock blades provide deeper pe*******on of adhesions and scar tissue and can be used for joint pain, injury, lower back or neck pain. This method of treatment is an incredible modality to increase movement in interfacial layers that build scar tissue over time.

Rock blading is based on research conducted by Dr. Robert Schleip, who debunked the idea of fascial release because fascia is a very tough tissue that requires an extremely large amount of force to deform. He suggests that therapists are less likely to โ€œbreakโ€ scar tissue and lengthen tissue and more likely to temporarily affect fascial tone. Research suggests we are merely providing a stimulus to pain and pressure receptors, freeing nerve endings, and other mechanoreceptors in order to allow our patients to move better and so we are affecting the nervous system.

RSI is a term to describe repetitive movement and overuse of muscles and tendons which cause pain. The condition is most commonly found in the wrists, hands, forearms, elbows, neck and shoulders.

Symptoms of RSI can range from mild to severe and usually develop overtime. These could be:

โ–ช๏ธPain or aching
โ–ช๏ธTender to touch
โ–ช๏ธStiffness when moving
โ–ช๏ธTingling or numbness
โ–ช๏ธWeakness
โ–ช๏ธCramp

Deep tissue massage is very successful when treating RSI, the benefits are:

โ–ช๏ธIncreasing circulation helps to remove toxins and reduce inflammation.
โ–ช๏ธReducing muscular, ligament and tendon tension
โ–ช๏ธReplenishing the injured area with oxygen and nutrients to promote healing
โ–ช๏ธBreaking down scar tissue to reduce the risk of the injury reoccurring
โ–ช๏ธUsing techniques such as MET to increase the range of movement in the joint and improve the function of the area

๐–๐ก๐š๐ญ? Myofascial cupping is an alternative therapy which dates back to earlier Egyptian, Chinese and Middle Eastern times. It has been modified to use plastic cups. It encouraged healing by creating a negative pressure or suction on the skin using the cups that pull underlying tissues, blood and other fluids close to the surface of the skin.

๐–๐ก๐ž๐ง? The cups can be applied to areas of musculoskeletal tension and tightness, they can either be left in one place or moved around using a gliding motion. It could be placed onto a facial adhesion or trigger point, this will reduce it and help to eliminate it. Cupping is typically applied on the neck, shoulders, back, sacrum, hip, abdomen, thigh, calves, and upper arms.

๐‡๐จ๐ฐ? Rather than applying pressure in a downwards motion during a massage it draws the soft tissue upwards applying a tensile force to the soft tissues. Before the cups are placed onto the skin I will massage the area with either a bees wax or an oil, this will allow the cups to glide easily without any friction. When the cups are placed onto the skin some of the air within the cup will be removed using a manual pump.

We're coming to the end of the first week of gyms being re-open, are you suffering with DOMS yet? ๐Ÿ‹๏ธโ€โ™€๏ธ

What are DOMS I hear you ask, well DOMS stands for Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness. It can occur when you start a new exercise, change your normal routine, increase the duration of a workout or increase the weights.

When your body undergoes unfamiliar stress or physical activity damage called microscopic tears can happen.

Your body responds to this damage by increasing inflammation in the muscles. The soreness and stiffness sets in approximately 24 hours after exercise and can last up to 72 hours.

Muscle growth or Muscular Hypertrophy begins to happen after the small microscopic tears begin to heal. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป

Why does massage help? Massage can help to alleviate the pain, relieve tight muscles, increase flexibility and increase blood flow. By increasing the blood flow to the areas it allows fresh oxygen and nutrients to the damaged area which will help speed up the healing process.

Get booked in to help with those DOMS! ๐Ÿ’†

Hi everyone, thought I'd write little something about me and what I'm aiming to do at Moving with Ease

I'm Alice, 23 from Basingstoke. From an early age, sport has always been a big part of my life. I mainly play netball and hockey now, as well as coaching children in schools and at club level and additionally, massaging at the local rugby club. For the past 3 years I have been a part-time sports coach at a private school in Reading, which has allowed me to study at the London School of Sports Massage where I completed my BTEC Level 5 Diploma in โ€˜Soft Tissue Therapyโ€™.

I feel the areas that I have experiences in compliment each other well as I have a view point from both sides. I undertake CPD (Continued Personal Development) courses as I believe it is important to be up to date with the ongoing changes in the massage therapy area.

My aim is to deliver a high quality treatment to aid people to live a pain and injury free life and carry on doing their activities for as long as possible, whether that is on the sports field, at home or at work. This is why my business is called Moving with Ease, as I believe that this is how people should be able to move and live.

I myself have been through numerous rehabilitation programs and understand the frustrations that injuries, aches and pains can be and how debilitating it might be. I will work 1-2-1 with you to ensure that you get the treatment and help that is specific to your needs.
