Frontside & Backside Grinds
There is lots of disagreement when it comes to naming Quad tricks especially grinds and slides, Inline names, trying to make our own names, "top", "over" "regular" "normal"...it's a little confusing. Taking elements from both inline and Skateboarding we are trying to break things down into a language that's universal and easy to understand.
We still have space in our quads workshop if you would like to learn more about this in person! The link is IN OUR BIO
Kicking off this series of posts with understanding frontside and backside grinds!
Here we are looking at Box Mizou or Mizu (named after the Japanese word for water). We are applying what calls a box grind with what inline skaters call a Mizou.
Since skaters like .teixeira have started to do tricks like mizou true to the inline foot positions including real topside tricks, we are calling this trick a "Box Mizou" and applying frontside and backside orientations. The same can be applied to all tricks where one foot is grinding on the trucks and the other is sliding i.e Box soul, Box pornstar etc.
Now back to the mission at hand... With our terminology, a frontside or backside grind depends on where the foot furthest away from the obstacle lands in the grind. If this foot lands In front(relative to the direction of travel) it is frontside if the foot lands at the back it is backside!
