Nice to finish the 2026 outdoor season with a convincing win at St Albans today, even though Barry Central's perennial problem of not focusing until the final end was once again apparent across all four rinks.

On three rinks it didnt matter too much but on the fourth it did, with St Albans winning the last three ends across all rinks 19-6.

Three Central rinks managed good wins anyway, but after being 8-0 down after five ends the other rink had battled back to be only two adrift at 11-9 with four ends to go.

Then the wheels came off, with the last four ends being lost 9-2... a very disappointing five (which was nearly an eight) at the start of that final sequence.

As it happens it didn't prevent Central securing the win and an extra three points (should the fourth rink have turned things around) wouldn't have made any difference to the team's final position in the league, with the 15 points enough to secure a top-10 finish in the league with three teams finishing below us.

So, all in all, a good final performance but a valuable lesson to learn from the last three ends, the results in 2026 could have been so much better if it were not for the team losing focus in the final stages... definitely something to put right in 2027.

Last game of the Munro Cup 2026 for Barry Central last night and a disappointing home defeat against Rectory Road.

Why disappointing to lose to a side likely to finish sixth in the league? Well it's because they finished the season with nine points more than double ours but after 13 ends last night we were ahead 46-39 and on course to take 12 points to Rectory Road's two. But typically we flagged towards the end and allowed the visitors to storm back and win by 12 shots... so a pretty dismal last five ends.

Nevertheless a good performance overall against a strong team to wind up the 2026 campaign... although we should still have two more games to go in the CDMBA, away to Fairoak on Saturday and St Albans a week later.

We only 10 names on the availability sheets for both games and it's sad to say we'll might have to forfeit them on Thursday unless some more names appear.

Sully Sports were the visitors for Barry Central's penultimate game of the 2026 Munro Cup campaign, which turned out to be a competitive battle against two evenly-matched teams.

It finished with two rink wins apiece, although the overall match points were decided on the last two ends across all four rinks, with Sully scoring 19 shots to Central's five to win 68-52.

The final margin between the teams just 16 shots and 14 of them Sully secured in those final two ends. Congrats to Sully on finishing the stronger but a really good performance from a patched-up Central team hit by a few last-minute withdrawals from an already-depleted lineup.

Just one game left in the Munro Cup now with Rectory Road the visitors to Gladstone Gardens on Monday night. It was a narrow defeat yesterday, but let's see if we can finish the campaign on a high note with a good performance against a very strong Penarth team.

Coming towards the end of the 2026 Cardiff And District Municipal Bowling Association season now and Ferndale are sitting pretty at the top of the table with just two games remaining.

Ynysybwl or Blaenrhondda could still catch them as both have three games to play but it would take Ferndale to falter in the final stages and maximum-point wins for either side to catch them.

A gallant effort in defeat against fourth-placed Beddau sees Barry Central in 11th place, a point behind Cadoxton who have played one game less.

Still two away games, at Fairoak and St Albans, for Central so still hope of breaking into the top 10 with Murch, currently in ninth place, only having one game to go.

Beddau were the visitors to Gladstone Gardens for Barry Central's final CDMBA home game of the season yesterday.

And what a great team effort it was from Central. Fantastic to see John and Des bringing their support to the team, alongside an immense performance from Mike and Craig in keeping the bar and hydration stations ticking over throughout the game.

Huge thanks to Tarina for stepping up at the last minute to ensure we could field a full side for the game and to all the other players for pushing a very good Beddau team all the way and securing four precious points, with a hard-fought win on one rink and a battling draw on another.

Both losing rinks were also very close contests, although the scores on them probably didn't reflect that as accurately as it should have with the rub of the green definitely going the way of the visitors.

But congrats to Beddau on the win,,, and well done to Central on a gallant effort in defeat.

Still two away games to go against Fairoak and St Albans in the CDMBA but the numbers are not looking good for those trips at the moment so please everyone try to make yourselves available for a final push to secure a couple more wins this campaign.

On Wednesday Rectory Road are the visitors to Buttrills Road in the Munro Cup, with Sully Sports completing our campaign in the midweek league on the following Monday.

With Spoons cancelled tomorrow and a home game the following Monday the 2026 Spoons race may well now spill over into September... Deb's currently in third place and needs a few more instalments to give her a decent chance of catching Russ at the top of the standings.

On 13 September the club is also likely to be hosting the final of the CDMBA Cup, with the Alzheimer's evening on the Saturday before. The following weekend it'll be finals day for the internal comps, with this coming Saturday a free weekend to make a final push to get the remaining matches in the internal comps resolved ahead of 19 September.

Not long to go outdoors in 2026 now, but Deb and Russ are busy sorting out teams for the indoor season too so let them know if you're up for the indoor challenge this winter.

Two more rounds in the 2026 Spoons race last night and the big mover was Deb, who raced up into third spot on 48 points, 12 behind second-placed Dan and 18 behind Russ, the man on top of the standings.

Deb is one of three players tied for top spot in August, where she is joined by Craig and Steve Walker on 10 points, with Russ and Dan four points behind on six.

Still a few more rounds to go in August, although 24 April is now ruled out as tomorrow night's Munro Cup match has had to be postponed until then due to people being seduced by the notion of viewing an eclipse, which funnily enough has eclipsed Rectory Road's visit to Gladstone Gardens.

With a bank holiday the following week, next Monday and one Wednesday date may have brought the curtain down on the 2026 standings but a few dates in September may now be added to the calendar although there may not be a separate September prize pot.

So still likely to be a few twists and turns in the race to find the 2026 Spoons champion and be nice to get a good turnout for the remaining episodes just to keep the battle for top spot bubbling up until the final instalment, which may now be early in September.

Minor scare for Barry Central at Roath Park today due to Spencer being a bit wobbly on his feet and having to sit out the game. Glad to say he had a nice chat on the sidelines with another former seafarer who had almost as many stories in his locker as Spencer has.

On the green it was a very successful afternoon for Central despite two losing rinks, but both just by two shots with exactly the same rink scores at 18-16.

But there were handsome wins on the other two rinks which propelled Central to an 81-58 win and 12 points to Roath Park's six.

On Wednesday it's back to Gladstone Gardens for the visit of Rectory Road in the Munro Cup. This would have been our final Wednesday fixture but for the rearranged home match against Sully Sports which is now scheduled for 19 August.

So two home games remaining in the Munro Cup and a slim chance to haul ourselves above Sully Sports and into 13th place in the table with two good wins. Come on Central we can do it!

Then it's just the CDMBA to go and home to Beddau on 15 August, before finishing up with two away days at Fairoak on 29 August and St Albans on 5 September.

Down to the bare bones, with only 16 players available for a trip to face the South Vale Munro Cup leaders Barry Romilly, Barry Central can be really proud of tonight's efforts.

To take two points off the league leaders with a win on one rink and to lose by an avarage of just a little over seven shots on the other three was an extremely creditable performance and testament to all the hard work players have been putting in during the club's Monday-night Spoons sessions.

Well done Central... just need a repeat performance at Roath Park on Saturday in the CDMBA now! It's bare bones again for that trip, against the team at the foot of the league table, but once again it's going to take a big effort to come away with some points, but an overall win has to be the target.

Come on Central, we can do it!

Just one round in the first August episode of the 2026 Spoons race last night and Gerry A, Craig, Steve W and Jenny were the big movers picking up five points each, with Mark, Dan, Russ and Gwyn just taking a point apiece.

So Gerry closes the gap between himself and Dan to 11 points, with Russ a further six in front. Jenny joins Gwyn on 31 points... a mere 29 adrift of Russ with a possible five more rounds to be completed before the 2026 champion is crowned.
