It is with great sadness that Barry Athletic FC announce the passing of our great friend and former player, coach and Chairman, Tony Barnett.

Tony was a stalwart of Barry Athletic having joined in 1985 at the age of 16 and had a distinguished playing career, playing through the levels before representing Athletic in the amateur league for a number of years.    Following his playing days, Tony became Chairman of the Club circa 2010 and was a pivotal member of reigniting BAFC after the loss of the Amateur League side in the late 2000’s.  He had a clear development plan and vision as to how to grow the club, and although his ambitions were to pursue a coaching career elsewhere, he was happy to mentor others and provided advice and guidance for many years after leaving.  A truly selfless man who was respected and loved throughout the club and who ensured the clubs future was paramount.

No one has an off word to say about him and he never had an off word to say about others, even when some people deserved it!

He has an enormous amount of friends from his Barry Athletic days and the extended football family. He was a devoted family man, an amazing friend, loved at both Barry Athletic and Barry Town.  Also highly respected at the other clubs he represented and coached.

Liverpool fan through and through.

Tony has left behind a true legacy, an amazing family, and those who he’s coached.  A genuine kind man, and a true gentleman who will be missed by all.

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who came along to our BATC Open Day today and helped make it such a fantastic success! 💙💛

It was brilliant to see so many new faces on court, enjoying tennis, meeting our members and getting a real feel for what Barry Athletic Tennis Club is all about. We hope you had as much fun as we did, and we can’t wait to welcome you back soon!

A special thank you to Gianluca at for giving up his time to deliver some brilliant tennis drills throughout the day. Your enthusiasm and coaching made a huge difference! 🎾👏

To all of our incredible members who gave up their time to set up, organise, welcome visitors, serve refreshments and help everything run so smoothly – thank you. This day simply wouldn’t have been possible without you. ❤️

Our Summer Holiday Camps at Barry Athletic Tennis Club are also now open for bookings!

These are suitable for children aged 7-14 years and will run on Wednesday mornings during 4 weeks of the summer holidays, with places allocated on a first come, first served basis.

A great way to keep children active, learning and having fun with:
• Tennis coaching and challenges
• Fun warm-ups and games
• Team competitions
• A mix of other sports and activities

Sessions are delivered by our LTA-qualified coaching team, all equipment is provided and non-members are very welcome.
Players just need to bring a drink, snacks and plenty of energy!

Great to see the courts busy with members enjoying some social tennis in the sunshine.

A warm and sunny afternoon welcomed us to Barry Athletic Tennis Club as we hosted in today’s league fixture.

Despite a determined effort and some closely contested matches, we couldn’t quite overcome a very well-organised and strong Llantwit side. Credit to our opponents, who played some excellent tennis throughout the afternoon.

A huge thank you to all who came along and enjoyed a fantastic day of tennis in great conditions.

We wish the very best for the remainder of the season and look forward to meeting again on court in the future 🎾
