This week saw Holker Old Boys U8s Spikers play up a year again to give themselves another challenge, entering the Barrow Celtic U9s Summer Tournament, although it felt like winter 🥶🏆
Objective for the morning was to try their best and be good teammates. And were they! First game underway and they battled hard against their first older opponent. They were in the game throughout and some cutting balls created chances, but the ball wouldn't hit the back of the net. Last minute and a free kick outside the box was leathered in and alas, 1-0 defeat. But the boys played excellent 🫡
This good play and tenacity continued into the second match against a strong Bowerham side. Despite deservedly taking the lead, a freak bobble and bad luck meant the win was still elusive. But again, they kept going ⚔️
With that spirit, the points then came and the Spikers finished 3rd, securing a Shield Semi Final. Which they won. Next match, Shield Final. Which they...... WON!!!! 🛡️
The team played excellent throughout and despite the initial bad luck, their brilliant play and effort was rewarded with the Shield, which they deserved nothing less than. Well done Spikers 👏 keep challenging yourselves 💪
