Last night our Blue and Orange Belt were both working on their Kime No Kata. Ude Hishigi Waki Gatame and Ude Hishigi Hara Gatame were the focus and done well throughout the session.

The rest of the students spent time with Simon Sensei working on Irimi Nage and movement and control.

Good to see the Thursdays picking up again πŸ‡―πŸ‡΅πŸ₯‹

A huge congratulations to our 3 new Orange Belts who successfully passed their gradings last night. 3 new 6th Kyu students walking their paths with pride πŸ‡―πŸ‡΅πŸ₯‹

A big mention goes to Renee for attending the charity day on Sunday for several hours, picking up an injury but then coming back for more on Monday and Tuesday! They say pain is all in the mind but it definitely looked like it was in her toe!

Adam and Wayne also gave a fantastic demonstration of technique and techniques (yes, they are different things) and also an excellent demonstration of Kata Heian Nidan πŸ€›πŸ‘ŠπŸ€œ

Steve Sensei and Renshi are very proud and humbled over such great students in our school.

Oh, and a very big shout out to Lee for being Uke for Sensei on Sunday... Everyone saw it wasn't exactly easy or relaxing for him but he did a fab job πŸ‘ŠπŸ₯‹πŸ‡―πŸ‡΅

Yesterday was a brilliant day. Steve Sensei completed 10 sessions across different arts and styles along with Senseis, Renshis and instructors from other arts. 2 of the 12 sessions were a planned break for non physical events.

Our students also took part in a good number of sessions whilst supporting each other and students from other arts. They also cross trained and demonstrated great behaviour and respect towards other arts and instructors (of course!). We are very proud to see them demonstrating the values of our school.

We've yet to hear how much was raised for the Children's Hospice South West but we are very hopeful we have achieved or surpassed our target of Β£6000.

A huge thank you to the instructors that took part and stepped in for each other when needed, and for demonstrating and embodying Budo in martial arts.

Pictures and more information about the day will follow soon!

And last but not least Richard Pincombe Sensei for the drive, ideas and effort needed to run this event and for inviting Steve Sensei to co run and organise it for the 3rd year running πŸ‡―πŸ‡΅πŸ₯‹πŸ’š

We've got a fantastic update to share! (We'll use a better poster in future though, AI doesn't always get it right)

Along with other club improvements we've locked in a new pricing structure. It's fair, accessible, affordable and above all ensures people get the most for their money and time on the mats πŸ‡―πŸ‡΅πŸ₯‹

We've focused on better membership prices for our committed students as they are the ones who carry the club forwards, along with their families. PAYG and is still there for anyone who likes flexibility or can't attend frequently, and it's only Β£3.50 more than it was over 20 years ago with us!

No contracts or difficult conversations! Monthly payment can be stopped at any time for when life and circumstances change. We've never used contracts and never will. You're in control!

Standard membership gives you 1 lesson per week per month.

All access gives you unlimited access to all classes

Here's what our members have helped us to build and offer through their continued support:

Up to 4 sessions per week, each one focused on different aspects but ultimately driving you towards the same goal. Classes range from 1 hour (juniors only), 1 hour pre lesson Kata practice, to 90 minutes (weekday sessions) to 2 hours (Super Sunday).

4 instructors 3rd Dan and above, each specialising in their own arts and knowledgeable in others. Martial artists guiding you on the path.

Guest instructors on occasion to improve our skills in other areas (Riverside Judo, The Butokukai Fellowship Trust and more)

Our own Dojo, matted, heated, parking, and facilities on site.

Free pre lesson Kata and Karate Jutsu training with Renshi Cook.

Free club run seminars

1-2-1 tuition possible during sessions

Access to our group app with training material and instructors for advice, technical questions etc

So, if that sounds good you know where to find us πŸ‘Š

Our ladies self-defence classes kicked off in January due to popular demand, and for those of you who actually showed up, what a journey it's been. You should be really proud of what you've achieved, and for committing to it for this long!

The demand was very real, mostly spurred on by recent incidents and concerns about female safety in the local area, so we decided to do something about it. The enquiries kept coming, questions were answered, lesson plans were made for attendees...

But somewhere between liking Facebook posts, leaving encouraging comments and saying "I'd love to do that", "this is exactly what we need" and actually walking through the door, a lot of people never quite made it. Opportunities missed, confidence not gained, skills left on the table.

Fourteen women walked through that door in January and backed their words with action. That takes courage, and every single one of them should be incredibly proud. Those who stayed the course kept these classes alive through commitment and hard work alone, and that is no small thing. But numbers have dropped to the point where we simply can't sustain the sessions any longer, so the classes will be on hold from the end of June.

On a really positive note, some of the ladies have chosen entirely off their own back to transfer across to our main classes. No pressure, no sales pitch from us, just a genuine decision born out of growing confidence and personal development. That's exactly what this was all about.

To those who kept showing up, thank you. You got it. To those who always meant to, we don't know when we'll run them again, so sadly that ship has sailed...

It's a gorgeous weekend but don't trade time on the tatami for a BBQ or a few too many 'refreshing drinks'... πŸ˜„

Tomorrow is a great starting point to join our ladies only classes, just Β£25pm to learn practical self defence without emphasis on belts, martial arts philosphy, competing etc. Just a great group of ladies doing something they really enjoy. 3:30pm - 5:30pm

After that we have our Super Sunday (daft name, very real results) which is adults only and totally worth it for beginners too. Bring a sense of humour! 6-8pm

As well as those classes we also run classes throughout the week, and we're sure we have something to suit you, so pop along for a free session. No signups, no bullshido, no contracts etc...

See you on the mats πŸ₯‹πŸ‡―πŸ‡΅
