West lake yesterday for the Thursday open at Bank End, peg 6 again and Steve Plant on 7 again. Got it wrong today could only manage odd fish on maggot very poor , only 1 small F1 and skimmers roach and perch 😢 Feel as though i fished poor so on reflection i got what i deserved on to the next match now ! Man united tonite 😀 Have a great weekend well done Andy Bailey winning the match class angler. Steve smashing me up with 28lbs i tipped back 12lbs 🤭

Bank end west lake peg 21 was my peg for the day. Weather forecast was poor so i just set 3 rods up bubble bomb n microfeeder ready for a quick getaway. Got the chance to have a look at Lee Haigh and give him a couple of pointers in his set up in exchange for for time of the match ( forgot my watch). Bubble was all wrong with huge crosswind you was right Dave Walker. Managed 5 small skimmers and lost 3 it was not right on the feeder rod but i gave it until 1.00 i think 🤔
Jumped up got 3 sections of pole 2 topkits 4ft and 5ft rigs got an F1 first drop in on corn , then lost one. 🙄 Went in on 4ft with maggots got 3 more 🤭 last hour primed maggot short got 4 more lost 3 more as elastic was too heavy. Got up again off the box this spooked them for 20 mins before getting a final one and 2 skimmers. Fished the match wrong today and i am fuming 😡 with myself, a match i have let slip. Finished up with 26lbs and 5th in the match 😀 well done to Steve Plant on winning 👏

Wetlands Open today and the match was full, went along with my ex team mate Mark Sixsmith so a pound bet was on. I drew peg 2 which i have won off before but sadly peg 1 was in and Shippo was on peg 3, it got worse Mark drew inform peg 27 🚀🚀 Both peg 1 and peg 2 had a 12lb carp early doors everything pointed to another bad match, cool wind blowing in. Managed a skimmer first drop in on my pole then i foul hooked one that ran out of my peg and that was that never had another sign on my pole line. It is so easily to feel discouraged when your day is going like this, i always gave up before far too easily 🤬😢

Not now firstly i’ve still got a quid on with Mark and secondly i have got to try and learn something from my day just something to take away lets not forget our final winter league match is on Wetlands.
After getting indications on the hybrid on every cast with fish i feel we’re attracted to the micros but no bites prevailed 🙄 tried every pellet wafter etc. Decided to set up the maggot feeder Klonk ! first cast another skimmer then 2 more in the next half hour. Mark then chucked his bomb rod out and he got 2 carp 🤬 now i had something to go at i made several changes shortening my hooklength to 10 inches and squeezing some Korda Goo into my maggot feeder. Also the fish were giving themselves up by stirring up the bottom feeding where i been before so i started to cast at the bubbles this got me to 11 skimmers before the finish. Sadly Mark caught 1 more fish at the death to snare my nugget 🤬🤬🤬 it hurt handing that pound over I can tell you. However, i really enjoyed my match the challenge the working out and i so nearly took that quid off him also the manner in which i fished it was very enjoyable.

Time for a few days off to prepare for Spring and Summer. Hope you have enjoyed your weekend .

Houghton Main Winter League at Springvale today drew the same peg i practiced on Wednesday peg 40 on Golden 2 🙄 Arm shoulder and back still sore so not feeling my best after the weekend i’m having a rest 🤭 Started on hybrid to the island, got a few stockie carp then the wind puffed up slightly and out came the 11ft Airity but i fluffed my lines with this to start with 😡 Managed just 2 on this so decided to fish for ide as a couple of the lads were catching them well tbf, i kept priming my bomb n corn for later. Put 10lb of ide in the net in rapid time however, they disappeared just as fast so decided to cast the bomb line. This resulted in a steady stream of stockie carp all the way to the end of the match 41lbs got me only 3rd in section but i did not trip up today over any pole rollers 🥳. Well done Andy Mack fishing well for the ide to take 2nd in my section, really pleased for Matt on winning our section and the Match i would have thought on peg 44 throwing a rod nearly all of the day 👏👏
Even though my casting got better and better plenty more work is needed, and made a couple of bad decisions but you have to learn. Good news my Elasto shalla elastic is on its way ! so i will be preparing for shalla season next week. Going to wetlands tomorrow for some skimmer fishing i enjoy fishing for these hopefully a couple of carp too. Definitely need a rest my arms and shoulders are stiffening up just writing this post. Nice to see Geoff, Neil, Sue and Neil this week great fishing all the staff are pleasant and helpful. Good luck if you are out tomorrow 🚀and well done if you got a result today 🍻

After yesterday’s escapade at Springvale and clipping my foot on the pole roller and taking a crash to the floor i am proper stiff bruised and tired not the best preparation going into today’s match at Bank End.
Drew peg 6 🙄 I was on 5 last week so not got best track record from this area. Made some big mistakes today fished in wrong area of peg so i was not on the deck no wonder I did not have any bites ( numpty) caught 1 F1 on the bubble and a few skimmers late to finish with 13lbs so ready for a day off ready for the Saturday match at Springvale. Stiff in shoulder back knees and morale a little low but i have got 2 Bank End burgers ! Well done to Dave Walker winning the match with 44lb from peg 22 on the bubble, Neil Troop on 2nd.

Just finished tying 6 rigs and changing elastic in 4 top kits ready for a practice at Springvale tomorrow in readiness for Saturdays Winter league match. Today i’ve fished the open at Barnboro drawn peg 17 on the bottom lake mixed feelings it use to be a good peg but not of late. Struggled first hour and a half nothing on pellets so changed to maggots this finally got me started but all the lads to my left were gone 💥💥 fish after fish it seemed to me. Just rotated my lines and sat patiently for odd bites the edge to my left seemed the strongest but even that was poor. Surprisingly my nets weighed 55 lb and i was pleased with that, flat calm with the wind blowing out of my peg most of the day. Lovely day in the sunshine, on a good venue with some good anglers too thanks to Dave and Jordan for fish caking me. Pleased i could not see John Ashwell hammering out his 109lb to win the match or I might have gone home early 👏👏 Absolutely shattered that’s enough fishing for one day i will set the feeder rods up in the morning good night.

Bank End Sunday open on the Match lake and a better turnout you can tell when the weather starts picking up 😎 Peg 3 today unfortunately Steve Rylance was on 2 and so i was not sure I would catch much. Shane law and Mark sixsmith opposite on 31 and 30 and my pairs partner Paul Crookes sat on Peg 8 🚀. Paul had a lump first chuck in nice I thought, sadly Shane law proceeded to empty it and Mark had a carp. Fished bomb n corn on my Nufish 10 ft rod ( lovely action )
maggots short on 3 lines my peg was very slow. Managed 2 f1s on pole and a carp snapped at my corn rig on a retrieval which enabled me to sample my new rod, love the action. Steve Rylance won the section and i came 2nd with a respectable 26lbs but Shane on his own towelled us in our pairs match and he did come 2nd in the match so well done to him. Neil Dixon and Neil Storey both won their sections and will be coming back next time for some more ! ( I would not let them 😂)well done gents. Dean Foster won the silvers comp you crafty monkey well done Mucka.

Barnburgh next match hope you have had a great weekend and looking forward to work tomorrow 😉

Bank End Open on West Lake today a few missing today as the fishery is holding a 2 day silvers feeder comp on East Lake. Drew peg 5 not a very good peg sat back a little and with the wind blowing out to the other side it did not look inviting, even Pete Smith had not a lot from here the other week. Having drawn on fish my last 3 matches thought i best not moan just go and fish the peg see what you can do 🤔 or learn something. After an hour i wish i had been on the 2 day silvers match 1 nice skimmer and 3 more was all I had. Usually i would have had at least 2 F1s in the net it was slow and the cooler wind and rain must be having an effect. At 12.30 i was on the pole in 5ft but quickly went to 6ft as there were no bites to be had. My 2 lines at 6ft got me some skimmers roach perch and i scraped 2 F1s and they were miles apart. No big F1 arrival today it was a tough day my mate Dean Foster won the section he fed more ground bait than me ! Big well done to Neil Troop on winning his 2nd match with 37lbs everybody was pleased for him, well done to Alan coming 2nd. Raced round to hear result of silvers match and good fishing mate Pete Smith is leading after day 1 with 16lb so good luck tomorrow Pete.

Run had to come to an end sometime and it is nice when a nice bloke does it. Did not have high expectations after the draw and that is exactly what happened but i never gave in. May have fed too many maggots and not enough ground bait yet i caught the big skimmer on a maggot feeder. F1s might have been a lot further out than i was fishing, I always come away with more questions than answers 🙄 Good luck if you are out this weekend.
