Dementia Friendly Swim Session - Your Space Royston

We have added a new swim session on a Sunday afternoon, for people with dementia and their carers only.

Those who wish to attend please call reception on, 01226 722991 to be added to our register.

These sessions will be lifeguarded and the building is at its quietest, perfect for a relaxing swim and a get together.

Health, strength and stability are like three pillars that support our lives. Picture an ancient temple and the three powerful columns that keep it standing strong through the ages – with health, strength, and stability as those columns, our lives can remain sturdy, resilient, and capable of adapting to the struggles we face.

We require them all in order to stay not just alive, but truly living. So let’s channel our inner gods and goddesses and create our own temples with these three essential pillars at their core - because without health, strength and stability we can feel like mere mortals!

Whether you love to indulge in a glass of wine after work or your idea of an excellent weekend involves a few too many beers with friends, you should definitely be aware of how much calories lurk within each serving.

It turns out that alcohol can actually pack quite the caloric punch - a single light beer can have anywhere from anywhere from 100 to 140 calories and a regular beer between 150 and 200!

So if standing on the scales gives you positive sentiment then perhaps drinking should better be avoided. That said, don’t worry too much – sipping responsibly means that one can still enjoy an alcoholic beverage without throwing those fitness goals completely overboard!

If you think of exercise as a chore, allow me to flip your thinking upside down! Exercise can bring immense benefits to your physical and mental health, and there are plenty of fun options out there - from dance cardio classes to beach volleyball.

In addition to giving you the perfect excuse to put on your favorite workout clothes, exercise can strengthen your bones and muscles while improving your energy levels. And of course, it's scientifically proven that regular physical activity helps reduce stress and anxiety.

So if you're still on the fence about whether or not exercise is worth the effort, here's a tip - don't just take my word for it; get out there and experience the benefits for yourself!

Cheryl started the 12 week programme with high blood pressure and was 14 stone 3 (90 kg) in weight.

After Millie gave Cheryl a structured exercise programme – she was then signposted to Sue, our nutritional advisor. Cheryl is over the moon with the results.

Cheryl said: “Sue’s plan of portion control was really easy to follow and I didn’t feel like it was a restricted diet. Attending the gym along with eating healthier foods has really boosted my confidence. I find the gym a social occasion too. I am now 72 kg and feel wonderful. My blood pressure has lowered significantly”

The Metrodome Barnsley is now a registered Safe Place! 🙂

A safe Place is where you are able to get short term help if you need it whilst in the community. The Metrodome has agreed to be part of this national scheme and staff from various departments in the building have attended training.

The Metrodome can now help by simply being there – some current members of the scheme say they have plenty of people use their venue as a safe place and staff are non the wiser. Simply knowing we are registered encourages them to use the venue and feel safe.
