Girls, Goals & Game Changers
The new season is officially underway — and what a way to start!
Today saw the first games of the new season for the Wombwell Town FC Girls section, and we couldn’t be prouder of every single girl who pulled on the Wombwell shirt.
Our girls’ section continues to go from strength to strength, and this season we’re incredibly proud to be 10 teams strong! 🙌
That means more girls playing football, more friendships being made, more confidence being built and, most importantly, more girls enjoying the beautiful game.
And today was all about that.
⭐ U9 & U10
A huge welcome to our U9 and U10 teams, both making their Wombwell Town FC debuts today!
For many of the girls, this was their first taste of competitive football, and what an exciting milestone it was. There were plenty of new experiences, plenty of learning and lots for the girls to take away from their first games.
The most important thing? They got out there, gave it a go and started their football journey together.
There’s so much potential in both groups, and we can’t wait to see them grow throughout the season!
⭐ U11
Our U11s were back in action today as they began their second season together.
It was fantastic to see how much the girls have developed already, and they showed plenty of enthusiasm, teamwork and determination.
Season two is all about continuing that development, building confidence and enjoying their football — and today was a great first step on that journey.
Lots to be proud of! 👏
⭐ U12
Another team making their debut today was our U12s.
There’s nothing quite like that feeling of playing your first game together, and despite the result not going their way, there were plenty of positives to take.
The girls showed character, kept working and gained valuable experience that will help them as they continue to grow as a team.
Today was just the beginning — and there is so much to look forward to!
⭐ U14 Red
Our U14 Reds had a tough task today, heading into the game with just nine players available.
Despite being up against it from the start, the girls showed tremendous spirit and put in a truly valiant effort.
They battled, supported each other and never gave up. And perhaps the best sight of all was seeing those smiles still there at the end of the game! 😊
That attitude is what football is all about. The result may not have gone our way, but the girls can be incredibly proud of their effort and determination.
⭐ U14 Black
Another Wombwell team making their debut today — our U14 Blacks!
They were involved in a close-fought game and were only just edged out, but what a fantastic starting point for this new team.
There were lots of positives, plenty of learning and a great foundation to build on as the season progresses.
A brilliant first outing — and we’re excited to see what this group can achieve together! 👏
⭐ U15
Our U15s got themselves off to a fantastic start by taking an early lead.
Although they couldn’t quite hold on and came away without the result they wanted, there was plenty to be encouraged by.
The girls showed attacking intent, worked hard and gave themselves a platform to build from. There’s lots to take into the next game, and plenty of football still to be played this season.
Keep going, girls!
⭐ U16
Our U16s also battled hard today and showed plenty of quality and determination.
The girls faced an additional challenge by going into the game without a goalkeeper, making an already difficult task even tougher.
Despite that, they continued to compete and work for each other right until the end.
The result wasn’t what they were hoping for, but there are definitely positives to build on — and plenty of credit to the girls for stepping up and giving it their all.

What a day for Wombwell Town FC Girls!
The results might not have gone our way across the board today, but that’s not what today was really about.
Today was about girls getting out on the pitch.
It was about new teams making their debuts.
It was about returning teams starting another season.
It was about learning, developing, supporting teammates, building confidence and, most importantly, enjoying football.
And there were plenty of smiles along the way. 😊⚽
From our youngest players taking their first steps into competitive football to our older girls continuing their journeys, it was brilliant to see so many girls proudly wearing the Wombwell shirt.
10 teams. One club. So many girls with goals and dreams.
The journey has started — and we can’t wait to see where this season takes us.
Keep smiling. Keep learning. Keep believing.
On to next week!
