31/12/2025
We should have shared this months earlier but Bushido Barnoldswick is notoriously poor at blowing its own trumpet. However better late than never and with just over 12 hours left of 2025 it’s still (just) relevant.
It’s 30 years since Bushido Barnoldswick was formed by Sensei John Idle, Norman and Brenda Hudson and then shortly after joined by Richard Asbery and Philip Atkinson.
Originally operating out of St Joseph’s Church Hall and Barnoldswick Sport Centre. In December 2002 John, Richard, Philip and Norman purchased the old British Legion Club and made that our permanent home.
Celebrating 30 years of existence seems the perfect opportunity to thank all the amazingly dedicated Instructors that have taught or are still instructing at Bushido Barnoldswick (listed in Grade order):
John Idle
Richard Asbery
Philip Atkinson
Norman Hudson
Robert Hope
Brenda Hudson
Mark Faulkner
Ryan Harper
Rebekka Pickles
Equally we would like to thank all our students past and present plus distinguished visiting Instructors that have visited over the past 30 years to either teach or train.
As you can appreciate the list of the above would be a very long one indeed.
We would however like to single out Sensei Andy Walker from Poole Bushido as he has the longest journey to make to visit us and has visited at least once or even sometimes twice a year for the past 30 years and always to train or grade…..outstanding commitment.
The last 30 years has passed in the blink of an eye and Sensei John and Richard have remained the constants throughout this period. Neither have any immediate plans of hanging up their Obi’s but when they do Bushido Barnoldswick is in safe hands With Sensei Ryan Harper and Sensei Rebekka Pickles all primmed and ready to take the club forward for the next 30 years.
Once again thank you to everyone who has been a contributor to what is a unique little club with quality Ju Jitsu as its primary focus.
