In Bulgaria, my drum sounds different.
Somehow more confident. More grounded. More in its place. 🥁
As we enter the wisdom of the Anahata — the Heart Chakra, I want to explore with you the many layers of connection: connection to others, to nature, to the land… and ultimately, connection to ourselves. ❤️
Since I first received my drum, I have mostly used it for others — to support relaxation, healing and inner connection.
I have drummed with nature too, asking for rain and for an abundant harvest.
The first time I drummed on Bulgarian land, it was at Beglik Tash, the ancient Thracian megalithic rock sanctuary by the Black Sea. I was there to awaken what felt sleeping — the spirits, the land, and perhaps something within our collective consciousness.
Back then, I barely knew anything about shamanism or how the drum worked.
And then a jackal started howling. 🐺
I nearly jumped out of my skin. 😂
Years later, I found myself wild camping in Bulgaria again — this time with my children and our dog.
I felt an urge to drum at a particular place, at a particular time.
So I simply picked up my drum and started.
No audience.
No ceremony.
No intention to heal anyone else.
Just me, the drum, the land and the moment.
A few days later, we returned to that same place to camp. And something extraordinary happened.
A drawing I had started months earlier — The Rendezvous — seemed to be weaving itself into reality. I had been designing its envelope when I suddenly realised:
I had already been living the drawing.
But there was something else…
Every time I drum on Bulgarian land, a jackal seems to appear. That night we heard them twice. I couldn't help but remember Beglik Tash.
Maybe coincidence.
Maybe nature answering in her own language.
Maybe simply a reminder to listen.
Because the deeper I go into the wisdom of the Heart, the more I realise that connection isn't always something we create.
Sometimes it is something we become quiet enough to hear.
How do you connect with yourself?
Have you ever gone wild camping and spent time completely surrounded by nature?
Would you try it?
