Wow, what a journey… it’s such a shame we couldn’t see it through until the end of the season, but I’ve loved every minute of the past 8 years nonetheless.

From the very first kick when I took on a group of shy & teeny kids at under 6s to the very last on Saturday as under 13s (now all blossomed into class young men).

Thank you to everyone (Chris my co-coach, players, parents, sponsors, everyone who’s played a part along the way) for the support over the years - It’s been an absolute pleasure and I’m definitely going to miss it - Memories to last a lifetime!!!

Bargoed YMCA Blue 1 - 0 Llantwit Fardre Bluejays

Pre kick off, table topping Llantwit were the visitors and after a brilliant cup quarter final result last Saturday, the lads were feeling rejuvenated and hoping to build up a head of steam with another good display. A cagey affair throughout (although the home team certainly dominating for the most part) but thankfully all 3 points were deservedly bagged by Bargoed with a set piece goal from recent signing Ethan Llewellyn… next up, an away trip to Abertridwr to face Aber Valley Black!!! 🫡

MOTM = Cai Jenkins, lots of worthy candidates right across the park but Cai just about pipped it with a nice all round midfield performance. Unfortunately for Bargoed (but great news for Cai), this turned out to be his last outing in a Bargoed jersey for now as he’s transferred to Pontypridd Utd… thank you for all your efforts during the past 8 years buddy, you have been a pleasure to have and good luck on your new venture representing “The Dragons” 🐉⚽️🤍

Bargoed YMCA Blue 4 - 3 Church Village

After a number of disappointing league results in recent weeks, cup quarter final action was a welcome break for our lads and they were relishing the change. A blistering start was short lived and at the break we somehow managed to find ourselves behind 3-2 (both goals coming from Aiden Slocombe) despite most of the play being in the Church Village half. The second period began and CV were reluctant to give up their lead until a brilliant goal from Ethan Llewellyn levelled the score with 10 minutes left on the clock. Just 5 minutes later a brilliant corner routine paid off when Mason Martin popped up at the back post with what turned out to be our winner… superb lads, on to the semis we go 🏆

MOTM = Team effort, every single player worthy of the accolade this weekend. Probably our most all rounded performance all season. A little reminder that the spirit and togetherness is still there in abundance - Cracking result men!!! 👊🏼

Cascade YC Red 3 - 3 Bargoed YMCA Blue

A few days late posting, but, last Saturday the lads made the short journey over to Penpedairheol to face local rivals Cascade in what turned out to be a highly entertaining end to end game. Despite a massive team effort, Bargoed couldn’t quite hold on to a 3-2 scoreline with Cascade forcing an equaliser in the dying embers. In fairness, it was one of those fixtures whereby neither side can really feel hard done by with sharing the spoils… Next up, Church Village (A).

MOTM = Ethan Llewellyn. In only his second appearance for the team, Ethan was faultless in the heart of the Bargoed defence. Composure, positioning, timely tackles… A very impressive performance all round - Keep up the good work 👏🏼

Bargoed YMCA Blue 7 - 0 Graig Green

Thankfully, the old trusty Basin field held firm to the heavy rain and the lads managed to get their first run out in 7 weeks on Saturday morning. Well… what can I say? The boys in blue started the game in a fierce manor, mounting relentless pressure on the Graig defence. It wasn’t long before we opened the scoring & the goals just seemed to flow from there on in… final score, 7-0 - A brilliant performance all round from back to front.

MOTM = Aiden Slocombe. As far as debuts go, this was a really impressive one from Aiden… 2 assists and a goal in his first outing. This lad hasn’t been signed to a football team since 2020 but looked as though he’d been playing regularly for a few seasons. Pace, power, aggression… excited to see more in the next few weeks. Great start, buddy 👏🏼
