My CRAZY MEDX Collection
There is gym equipment⦠and then thereās MedX.
If you know, you know. š
MedX machines are some of the rarest and most unique pieces of strength equipment youāll find in a modern gym ā and thatās not by accident.
MedX was founded in 1986 by Arthur Jones, the legendary mind behind Nautilus, with a very different goal in mind: design equipment around the human body, rather than simply putting weight on a machine.
The original development of MedX focused heavily on measuring strength, range of motion and rehabilitation ā particularly the spine and neck ā before that same engineering philosophy was brought into strength-training equipment.
So what makes MedX different?
š¹ Biomechanics first ā the machines are designed around the way the body actually moves.
š¹ Variable resistance ā specialised cam systems alter the resistance through the movement, rather than giving you the same mechanical challenge at every point.
š¹ Extremely low friction ā the design minimises wasted resistance, allowing more of the load to be transferred directly to the muscles.
š¹ Incredibly precise loading ā resistance can be adjusted in very small increments, allowing much more precise progression than conventional weight-stack machines.
š¹ Isolation ā many MedX machines were designed to place the body in a very specific position and movement path, allowing individual muscles and muscle groups to be trained with remarkable precision.
And then thereās the biggest thingā¦
Theyāre rare.
You simply donāt see complete collections of genuine MedX equipment in many gyms anymore. Some of these machines represent a piece of strength-training engineering that has largely disappeared from the mainstream commercial gym world.
They may look unusual.
They may look old-school.
But thereās a reason serious strength enthusiasts still hunt them down.
MedX wasnāt designed to be flashy. It was designed to make the movement count.
This is equipment built around precision, progression and muscular stimulus ā and when you train on a properly set-up MedX machine, you quickly understand why these machines have developed such a cult following.
