Match Report | vs Carryduff Colts II 💙⚽️
Last game of the season — and what a way to finish! 🔥⚽️
Carryduff Colts certainly didn't make it easy for us, and we struggled to settle into the game early on. We were turning over possession too often, which put ourselves under unnecessary pressure.
Once we settled down, though, the girls started to create some fantastic attacking opportunities and kept pushing until we found the breakthrough.
The opening goal was a brilliant team effort. Grace showed fantastic pace and determination to keep the ball in play, while Molly continued her run and calmly tapped the ball home. A lovely goal created through pure effort and desire. 👏🏻⚽️
The second was another great attacking move, with a perfectly weighted through ball allowing Molly to turn quickly and make her run. The Carryduff keeper made a great save, but Sophie followed up with a perfectly lofted effort over the keeper and into the net. ⚽️👏🏻
At 2-0 up, we unfortunately switched off. A communication error and being out of shape allowed Carryduff to punish us with two goals in quick succession to bring the game level at 2-2. A mistake we know we shouldn't be making at this stage of the season, but credit to the girls for how they responded.
We were awarded a penalty for handball but unfortunately couldn't convert. Rather than let that knock us, we went straight back on the attack and produced two excellent passages of play, resulting in two goals back-to-back to restore our lead at 4-2. 💪🏻
Carryduff kept battling, and as the legs started to tire, the girls had to dig deep. They showed tremendous resilience, stayed together and continued to work hard to keep control of the game.
Then, in the dying minutes, we found the back of the net once more to make it 5-2 and secure the win! 🙌🏻💙
What a way to finish the season!
The girls thoroughly deserved the victory and have taken good football to the opposition throughout the season. 💪🏻
For the majority of this squad, this has been their first experience of senior football, and the development we've seen from the start of the season to now has been immense. The progress, confidence, teamwork and belief they've shown week after week has been fantastic to watch.
A huge well done to every single player who has contributed to this season. 👏🏻💙
