IN THE WET STUFF

Our ‘Open Water Swim’ Journey started over 25 years ago swimming in lakes, rivers, mountain pools and the sea including some exhilarating self guided coasteering trips. I (Binney) have been swimming since I can remember, in various pools throughout Europe and the USA or in the sea on family holidays to Cornwall, I competed to a National Level and represented the British Police Sw

im Team. Having a sibling who represented GB in the Olympics and 2 Commonwealth Games gave a valuable insight into the dedication it takes to become an elite swimmer. After many years of working in the Third Sector as a CEO in Safety/Risk Education, a career change allowed me to revisit my passion for swimming. The 'In The Wet Stuff' concept was developed after watching Alistair Brownlee win Gold in the Triathlon and Keri-Anne Payne narrowly missing out on a Bronze during the 2012 Olympics. Together with Rick we introduced Open Water Swim Coaching into various lakes/quarries in the Midlands. Having qualified as Beach Lifeguards during a cold week in Cornwall in April of 2013, Rick took on the role of Safety Advisor for all our open water sessions. Within the year I had also taken on the role of Head Coach after working under Mark Perry, Ex-Olympic GB Open Water Coach, coaching the Performance Squad of a Midlands Club, whilst Rick became the club’s first dedicated volunteer Masters Coach. We moved to Cornwall in 2016 and brought ‘In The Wet Stuff’ to The Roseland. We love being on, in or near the sea, so living a mile from the beach is far better, than living in the middle of the Country! At the end of the 2021 season a move to North Aberdeenshire opened up more swim and adventure possibilities. We have coached swimmers and triathletes young and old from complete newbies to British Age Groupers. We believe that everyone can be taught to swim in the right environment and enjoy the pleasures of swimming whether in a pool, open water wetsuit swimming, or skins swimming in the sea, for pleasure, bucket list or competitively. We currently offer 121 & Group Teaching/Coaching, Adventure Swims, Multi Swim Days, Remote Coaching, and Nutritional Advice. Safety is always our number one priority with suitable safety craft/equipment available at all sessions with a maximum ratio of 1:6. In recent years we have competed in pool, lake and sea swim triathlons, with Rick taking on the longer distances of Half (70.3) and Full (140.6) Triathlons. Qualifications:-
