Banbury Mountaineering Club is a mountaineering club based in Banbury Oxfordshire, United Kingdom, which was established in the mid 1960’s. We are a small group of like-minded people who focus spending time in the great outdoors. We are open to all and encourage those around the Banbury area to join and participate in local events with other club members. We have a wide range of experience within
the club and a great social calendar that complements the great outdoors. Meets
Tuesday – Wednesdays - Thursday
The Pinnacle Northampton, leaving Banbury around 7pm, finishes around 10pm, with a visit to the pub afterwards for those that like that sort of thing (most of us do).If you are interested, you can either car share with whoever is going (let us know the night before) or meet there. It tends to be a late night if you take the car share option (back in Banbury about 11:30). Fridays
White Horse Pub, Banbury 21:30pm till closing, not climbing, but still fun. Sundays
During winter months we climb indoors, usually Milton Keynes, Bond Leaving Banbury around 1pm, climb until 7pm and kebab / pizza afterwards getting back to Banbury around 8:30pm, again car share, meet us there and come home early if you like. During the warmer months we tend to venture outside on to real rock, locations vary depending on weather. Tours
Going as a group means the trips costs less, sharing transport costs and accommodation. You’ll be also sharing experiences with others, that have knowledge of local areas and various disciplines you’ll find having adventurous trips abroad more fun and cheaper. We do other stuff outside in the UK and abroad but that tends to be on an ad hoc basis, we tend to use the pub meets to plan trips and create events in the Facebook Group. We have visited Gower, Pembrokeshire, Peaks, Wales, Scotland, Spain, Greece, Norway, Italy
We aim for Costa Blanca region in early October for Sport Climbing, Greece destinations around late October to early November. March sees the club going off to El Chorro, Spain for some warmer climbing. Winter months some of the club will venture over to Cogne for some ice climbing in the Aosta valley, trips to Scotland to venture in the snow. We charge £5 annual fee, which goes towards equipment costs, ropes, helmets, etc. paid at our AGM/Curry night held in the White Horse, Banbury any time between February and December
