🏁 Merchants of Speed take on the Masters Irish National Champs! 🏁

The yellow‑and‑black convoy rolled into Nenagh, North Tipp, with five brave souls ready to pin on numbers and test the legs: Naomi, Brian, Erwin, Philip and Martin. Spirits high. Nerves… well, mostly hidden.

🚴‍♀️ First up: Naomi Robb
Her first ever National TT — though she tried (and failed) to pretend she wasn’t nervous. A 15‑minute spin to the start line sorted that out. With only a quick drive‑by of the course, she smashed out a 48:58, landing 4th in her category. Not bad for a debut… in fact, outrageously good.

🚴‍♂️ Next: Brian “The Postman” Hannon
Because he ALWAYS delivers. A cool, calm, championship‑grade 44:36 earned him silver in the M70's. The man is basically powered by experience and spite.

🚴‍♂️ Philip Loughlin (M55)
The cruelest finishing position in cycling: 4th. Missed the podium by 8 seconds — which is exactly one long sigh and a gel wrapper. Still a class ride though.

🚴‍♂️ Martin Duffy (also M55)
Rolled home in 46:06 for 9th, proving once again that the M55 category is basically a cage fight on wheels.

🚴‍♂️ Finally: Erwin McKee
A season of ups and downs… but recently mostly ups.
He blasted a 37:55, despite dropping his chain on one of the fastest parts of the course. With a 1x setup, he had to stop, fix it, and then resume warp speed. Even so with the dropped time, he admitted he wouldn’t have caught “The Flying Doc” Stuart McCaughey — but a bronze medal at Nationals is still serious bragging rights.

Fresh from picking up medals at the recent Ulster Championships Mark Kendall and Aaron Parks make the journey south for the Irish Masters National Championships Road Races this weekend. Best of luck gents. Spare a thought for Gavin Clarke who was also to make the journey but unfortunately has been struck down with the flu. Sign-on will take place at Newry Town FC grounds, Greenbank.

The course will run along the Newry–Warrenpoint-Newry carriageway before turning into Greenbank for the finish.

Prizes will be awarded to the top three overall, with additional awards for Masters men and women, Junior men and women, and road bike category.

It’s always a great event for one final end of season blast
Banbridge CC members will also be racing for the Lutton Cup (handicap) and the Jack Carson Cup (Masters scratch).

Our friends too from Dromore Cycling Club with whom we have worked with all season with the interclub events. Banbridge held their annual Hillclimb over Ballinafoy Hill. Fastest time of the night went to Adam Matthews (unofficial 2.57.73) with Nathan Mullan close behind. Fastest female was Eve Harrison with a scorching time (unofficially 4.55.63) Well done everyone - I'll bring a wider lens next week.
