Throughout 2021 I dedicated myself to amateur boxing, training from Gilford ABC and Belfast Met Boxing Academy, I competed my first 2 bouts in early 2022.
Throughout the year I had been training around 9 times per week. These sessions consisted of several boxing or circuit, and 3 weight training sessions.
This eventually, surprisingly or not, landed me with a fracture in my lower vertebrae called spondylolisthesis.
I had continually overlooked my lower back pain, thinking it was just a side effect of consistent training, until one morning in training I got hit with a nasty body shot which caused me enough to call a physio.
The injury removed me from training completely and I had to limit my physical activity to physical rehab exercises using a yoga ball.
Through experience, advice from my physio and application of my own sports science knowledge, I adopted a new approach to my training.
The name, Motion Personal Training, is inspired by the planes of motion in sports science.
They teach us that as well as training our body to lift heavy, grow muscles or run fast, we should train it to move pain free in all directions.
This knowledge is applied by many professionals in the fitness industry. It not only to reduces injury, but improves performance in all other aspects.
