As we approach the new 2023 fishing season at Ladybower Fisheries we are looking at streamlining our social media and trying to prevent duplicate posts across different platforms.

From the 1st of February 2023 the Accessibility Fishing page will be closed down and future posts about the work that the British Disabled Angling Association (BDAA) Charity are doing at Ladybower Fisheries will be updated on the BDAA page.

The British Disabled Angling Association Charity is committed to creating inclusive angling environments for disabled people of all ages, increasing the number of people able to fish, to socially integrate disabled and non-disabled people within angling, and to raise disability awareness at Ladybower Fisheries and throughout the UK, which we will be providing more information about soon.

Please like, share and follow the BDAA page to keep in touch about future events, assisted buddy fishing sessions, adapted fishing equipment, accessible boats and our work with SEND schools.

Not long to wait now before the British Disabled Angling Association Pioner accessible boats will be back in action at Ladybower Fisheries. Together with the https://www.coulam.co.uk/ accessible boats we aim to make fishing available to people who wouldn’t otherwise get the chance to experience fishing from a boat.

Based in Sheffield, we’re lucky to have the peaks right on our doorstep and clients can enjoy in the great outdoors as part of their recovery journey with us!

As we come to the end of 2022 l have had time to reflect on what an amazing year it has been for disabled anglers at Ladybower Fisheries this year working in partnership with the British Disabled Angling Association (BDAA).

During 2022 the BDAA charity have been in a position to fully fund over 1500 people of all ages with seen and unseen disabilities to assist people to go fishing at Ladybower Fisheries.

All the people that enquired about fishing at ladybower during 2022 had the opportunity to fish from the BDAA Pioner accessible boats, dedicated pontoon or bank side using adapted fishing equipment when needed alongside qualified coaches providing Buddy assistance when required.

This includes over 400 children from SEN schools who have gained new experiences and enjoyed the freedom of fishing from the BDAA Pioner front loading adapted boats, having the opportunity to drive the boats under their own independent means either by standard operation or the electronic fob system in a safe environment supervised by RYA trained power boat handlers.

As we move in to 2023 the future looks even brighter at Ladybower Fisheries as it will become the first ever BDAA dedicated fishing centre with even more development plans to make it the number one destination for accessible fishing in the UK.

Phase 1 of the new development at Ladybower Fisheries has already begun with the ground work complete for a unique self sustainable wheelchair accessible education room with accessible facilities.

The large 9m by 6m education room will be a great addition providing all year round shelter from the elements while creating an additional space for lunch breaks and enabling teaching sessions on assembling fishing equipment, fly tying, fish management, entomology, water safety, the countryside code and a place for students on work experience. It will also be used as a training centre for people that would like to volunteer as a BDAA buddy plus a training centre for cast awards including the Angling Trust level 2 coaching assessments.

Our ultimate aim is to provide an inclusive fishing service for large groups from Schools, Learning Disability Centres, Residential Centres, Rehabilitation Centres, Military Groups and NHS referrals alongside anyone with a disability who needs assistance, or individuals who would like to learn more about how to assist someone with a disability to go fishing.

Happy New Year from everyone at the BDAA and Ladybower Fisheries and we look forward to seeing everyone back at Ladybower in 2023 who have previously used this BDAA service alongside new people just starting out on their fishing adventures.

If you would like more information on what is available at Ladybower Fisheries for people with disabilities please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

That’s the last one of the wheelchair accessible boats off the water at Ladybower Fisheries for her service, maintenance and well deserved deep clean. The British Disabled Angling Association Mary Mo Pioner boat has been running the buddy fishing trips single handed over the past couple of months but with the water levels steadily rising we are looking forward to getting all four accessible boats back on the water for the new season in March 2023.

2022 has been an amazing year at Ladybower Fisheries working alongside the BDAA Charity assisting people of all ages and abilities with seen and unseen disabilities to access the activity of fishing from our boats, pontoons and the bank in the stunning surroundings of the Peak District National Park and we are all looking forward to doing it all again next year.

Thank you to everyone for supporting us at Ladybower Fisheries Accessibility Fishing and for supporting the BDAA who makes it possible to remove barriers to fishing with accessible pontoons, adapted fishing equipment and boats to make a difference for people with disabilities to take up fishing for the first time or get back into fishing after a life changing event.

It has been a privilege to be invited to The Greens Addiction treatment center in Sheffield today, to award some of the residents with their BDAA starter and level 1 fishing certificates recognised by the Angling Trust Licensed Coach Scheme.

The Group have successfully completed a 8 week fishing program funded by the British Disabled Angling Association Charity at Ladybower Fisheries.

The group have seen such a benefit to their mental health and wellbeing and have now started their own fishing club supported by the BDAA. This is a rolling program for other existing residents and future residents to take up fishing as a coping mechanism whilst in recovery.

Well done to everyone involved 👏👏👏

It has been a pleasure to welcome back a group of students from REAL Education Nottinghamshire School today on a British Disabled Angling Association buddy fishing session at Ladybower Fisheries.

The group braved the cold weather to learn more about the history of Ladybower and how the fishery operates before having a go at fly fishing from the pontoon and one of the BDAA accessible Pioner boats.

Hopefully next time the weather will be warmer.

Accessibility Fishing at Ladybower Fisheries with the support of the British Disabled Angling Association has come a long way since Sophie Morgan visited the Peak District with VisitEngland. Ladybower is now becoming the place to visit for people with seen and unseen disabilities to take up fishing for the first time or get back into fishing after a live changing event with our dedicated team of coaches offering support.

Some of you might have seen Kev at Ladybower Fisheries over the past two fishing seasons but what you might not know is that Kev started fly fishing due to his Physio Therapist contacting the British Disabled Angling Association on his behalf to help Kev get back into fishing. He was isolated at home with worsening Multiple Sclerosis and had not been able to socialise with other people except his carers. Two years later Kev is still coming to Ladybower on a regular basis and not only has he become an accomplished fly fisherman but has also made many new friends on the way thanks to the funded BDAA Charity Buddy Trips Scheme.

Today was Kev’s last trip of the season due to the cold weather over winter and he has asked me to say a big thank you to everyone at the BDAA, Ladybower staff and volunteers for all the support he has received this year.
