“I can’t do a pull-up”
Maybe not yet!
One of the biggest mistakes people make in the gym is deciding they can’t do something before they’ve actually worked towards it.
A pull-up isn’t an all-or-nothing exercise. There are plenty of ways to build up to your first one.
Start with:
✔ Resistance band-assisted pull-ups
✔ Negative pull-ups (slowly lowering yourself down)
✔ Lat pulldowns
✔ Ring rows or TRX rows
Focus on what you CAN do right now, not what you can’t.
And if you’re already doing pull-ups, make sure you’re getting the most out of them:
- Start from a dead hang
- Pull your elbows towards your ribs
- Keep your chest proud
- Avoid craning your neck towards the bar
- Stay controlled on the way down
The people who eventually achieve their goals aren’t always the strongest when they start.
They’re usually the ones who keep showing up and working on what they can do today.
