Firsts Result 💙
Last night the Toon welcomed Ballymena United Women down to Paddy’s Park for their next league encounter. Both teams started the game with strong, end to end attacking play and went into half time at 0-0 with all to play for in the next 45 minutes.
The hosts got off to a strong start and 61 minutes in a moment of brilliance from Naoimhe, whose spectacular strike will no doubt be in contention for Goal of the Season and the effort gave Ballymoney a well deserved 1-0 lead. 🔥
The Toon battled well to keep their 1-0 lead with the back line working tirelessly and GK Karen putting in an outstanding shift to keep Ballymena at bay. The consistent work rate from our midfield helped Ballymoney double their lead when the Toons top goal scorer Abby found the back of the net, beating the keeper to the ball and finishing confidently to make it 2–0.
Ballymena responded quick and pulled a goal back to reduce the deficit to 2–1 with 10 minutes remaining in the game. However, Ballymoney’s strength in depth proved decisive. The resigning of our Quiggy, who entered the action from the bench made an immediate impact, scoring our 3rd of the game after battling well to grab a penalty and confidently slotted it past the Ballymena GK just like she’s never been away! Quiggy then assisted our 4th of the game after a well taken finish from Sophie Caves, who is back in the squad after another spell in America playing college football. 💪🏻
Ballymena managed to add a second goal, but it proved little more than a consolation as Ballymoney saw out the game comfortably in the end up with a strong performance from the Toon and making it 2 wins from 2 win the league.
Focus now goes to next week’s game where Ballymena take the trip down again for the cup on Monday night at JDLC and then back to league action on Friday night against Craigavon.
