Ballycastle Runners finally enjoyed a dry training night! ☀️🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️
This photo was taken at McGuire's Strand on a beautiful summer evening following an interval session. After a spell of wet and unsettled weather, it was great to train under clear skies and enjoy the stunning coastal scenery.
A perfect evening for running, good company, and well-earned smiles after a tough session. 🌅👟💪

Killiclougher 5K – 6th June
Despite damp conditions and a steady drizzle, the flat and fast Killiclougher 5K produced some excellent racing on Saturday.
Representing Ballycastle Runners, Shaun O'Boyle delivered another impressive performance, crossing the line in 18:18 to claim a well-earned 5th place in a strong and competitive field.
The wet weather may have made conditions less than ideal for spectators, but the flat course provided plenty of opportunity for quick times, and Shaun certainly made the most of it with a superb run.
Congratulations to Shaun on another top-class result and a fantastic top-five finish. 👏🏃‍♂️🌧️🏅

Out the Line 5 Mile – 4th June
Despite the unpleasant weather, runners turned out in good numbers for the Out the Line 5 Mile, hosted by Foyle Valley Athletics Club.
The flat course provided a great opportunity for fast running, although the rain made conditions less than ideal. After crossing the finish line, participants enjoyed an excellent spread of refreshments, a welcome reward after the race.
Representing Ballycastle Runners AC:
Mark Gardiner – 30:03
A strong run from Mark, posting an impressive time on a damp evening and continuing his fine run of form. Well done! 👏🏃‍♂️🏁🌧️

Fairhill 5 Miler – 4th June 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️
Ballycastle Runners were well represented at the Fairhill 5 Miler hosted by the Ballymena Runners on Thursday evening.
Heavy rain in the days leading up to the event meant organisers had to make a detour to part of the course, and there were still a few puddles to negotiate along the way. Thankfully, the weather on race night was much kinder, providing good conditions for running and helping participants make the most of the fast five-mile route.
A special congratulations goes to Gerard McAleese, who delivered an outstanding performance to finish in 28:23 and take 1st AC honours, leading the Ballycastle contingent home. 👏🏆

🏃 Aidan McKee – 36:38
🏃‍♀️ Majella Connolly – 40:18
🏃 Dominic Connolly – 41:01
🏃‍♀️ Siobhan McCaughan – 46:53
It was another enjoyable evening on the local racing calendar, with plenty of encouragement around the course and a great atmosphere from start to finish. Credit must go to the volunteers, marshals and organisers who ensured everything ran smoothly despite the challenges caused by the wet weather earlier in the week.
A big thank you also to Ballymena Runners for their warm hospitality. Their post-race refreshments were second to none, with a fantastic spread waiting for runners at the finish line — the perfect reward after five hard miles and a chance for everyone to catch up and share race stories.
Well done to all our runners for another strong showing in club colours. Your efforts continue to do Ballycastle Runners proud. 💙💛

Ballycastle Runners – Parkrun Report – 30th May
Dull skies but warm running conditions made for another busy Saturday morning on the parkrun circuit, with Ballycastle Runners once again well represented across several venues. From strong podium finishes to valuable volunteer support, it was another excellent morning for the club 👏🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️
A special mention must go to Mark Gardiner and Shaun O'Boyle, who both produced superb performances to claim 2nd place finishes at Riverside and Dungannon respectively. Mark’s impressive 19:08 at Riverside saw him finish just ahead of a large chasing pack, while Shaun continued his fine form with a strong 19:52 around Dungannon.
At Limepark Parkrun, Ballycastle Runners had great representation among the 43 finishers. Noel McAllister led the club contingent home in 24:53, followed by Aaron Elliott in 27:25. Siobhan McCaughan continued her consistent running with 28:25, while Julie Staines dipped under the 30-minute mark with a well-paced 29:59. Jennifer Scott crossed in 41:10, with Christina Bradley completing the course in 47:15 after also volunteering on the day — a brilliant contribution both on and off the course 👏
Over at Portrush Parkrun, Paul McAlonan took on the larger field of 236 runners and recorded a solid 26:03 on the scenic coastal route.
Parkrun mornings continue to showcase the great spirit within Ballycastle Runners, with members supporting events across the country every weekend. Whether chasing podium places, personal goals, or simply enjoying the community atmosphere, every performance and volunteer effort plays a big part in the club’s success.
Well done to all who ran, volunteered, and represented the club this weekend 💙👏

Marconi’s 5 Mile Race 2026
Return of the Hill

After last year’s event was reduced to a 5K route due to subsidence issues on the Carrickmore Road, Ballycastle Runners AC were delighted to welcome the return of the full Marconi’s 5 Mile course including the infamous Corrymeela Hill and for the first time the introduction of a race t-shirt to go along with the finishers medal.

More than 300 runners from across the country descended on Ballycastle on the morning of the 24th of May for the popular annual race. Starting at the town’s tennis courts, the scenic route follows the coast road out towards Marconi’s Cottage before turning for home, with the challenging climb at Corrymeela providing a stern final test for competitors.

Conditions were close to ideal, with dry weather and mild cloud cover making for excellent racing conditions, a relief after the previous two years being wet.

Pre-race entertainment was provided by local musician Peter Brogan, whose energetic set helped build the atmosphere ahead of the start, while post-race entertainment came courtesy of Baile An Chaistil CCE.

Jack Sinclair from Roadrunners AC produced a commanding performance from start to finish to take victory in an impressive time of 28:42. Finishing second was Christopher McNickle of Springwell Running Club in 29:22, while Cathair McGuigan completed the male podium places in 29:45.

Grace McAlinden from Leeds City Athletics Club delivered a superb run to finish ninth overall and claim first female in 32:30. Marie Kerr of Glens Runners was second female home in a strong 34:29, while third place went to Ailis McKavanagh of Carryduff Running Club in 35:00.

Age Category wins were:
F35 Nuala McAleese
F40 Louise Gunn
F45 Veronica Nellins - Ballymena and Antrim AC
F50 Lucy O’Dell - Glens Runners
F55 Ruth McCausland
F60 Janet Patrick - Springwell RC
F65 Patricia Craig – Springwell RC
F70 Helene Graham

M35 John McCreight - Pace Running Club
M40 Shane McCann
M45 Keith Dawson - Lagan Valley AC
M50 Stephen Mezza
M55 Maurice Walker – Springwell RC
M60 George Ferguson - Beechmount Harriers
M65 Stephen Cowan
M70 Sam Jackson - Ballymena Runners AC

A great turn out from clubs local and further afield, particular mention goes to neighbouring club Springwell RC for sending 33 members to have fun on the hill!

Runners and supporters were also treated to an excellent spread of post-race food and refreshments, adding to the warm and welcoming atmosphere that has become a trademark of the event and much needed after the challenge of a certain hill!

Ballycastle Runners AC would like to extend sincere thanks to all of the event sponsors, whose generous support made this year’s race possible. McAuley Freight, E&L Construction, Ballycastle Credit Union, Morton’s Traditional Fish & Chips, tyre specialists McFadden’s The Garage, Anzac Off Sales, Limitless Gymnasium and Sandy’s Cafe. Also Championchip Ireland, all the volunteers, Ambutran and musicians who also made it possible! Photos by Seamus McGill, Joe Brogan and Michael Stuart.

Thank you everyone and see you all next year!

🏃‍♂️ Newry City Half Marathon – 24th May 🏃‍♀️

Ballycastle Runners AC were represented at the popular Newry City Half Marathon on Saturday 24th May, with ideal running conditions helping produce fast times and plenty of smiles across the day 🌤️👟

With approximately 770 runners entered, the streets of Newry were buzzing from start to finish as competitors tackled one of the country’s best-known half marathon events. The course, famous for being flat and fast, provided the perfect opportunity for runners to test themselves over the 13.1 mile distance while enjoying the brilliant atmosphere and crowd support around the city 👏🔥

Running for Ballycastle Runners AC was:
Shaun O’Boyle – 1:32:21 ⏱️

Shaun produced a strong and consistent run throughout, putting in an excellent performance on a competitive course and finishing comfortably under the 1 hour 35 minute mark 💪👏

A well organised event once again by the hosts, with great support, good weather and a superb turnout making it another successful day of racing 🏅💙
