Inter Orcas vs Polar Bears
Killer Whale vs Polar Bear, up there with City vs United for grudge match, except with more teeth. An epic odyssey of classical proportions. Gods, monsters, heroines...all that malarkey.
Inter Orcas brought 8 players, Bears their entire roster and a crowd full of middle aged hooligans sporting a bugle and some maracas. Killer Whale number 7 was louder than the whole bears horn section! And how disappointed in ourselves should we be on that bench? Gymnastics were thrown out there to compete and still number 7 drowned out everything.
The game itself was an interesting affair, some very good volleyball from both sides, the occasional Nikas moment from Andrea, it’s good to see inspiration being drawn from the Kodiaks. Set 1 was close and just went the way of the bears. Some excellent serving from Rachel saving Polar from some rotation errors and no one really being sure, on either side of the net or in the stands, who was setting and who was middle. Set 2 Bears went for the same level of chaos and middles musical chairs but without the service run...
an easy win for the Orcas. Set 3, Polars back in the driving seat, Cherie showing the world that she was born to play middle, Suze showing there’s nothing like having a tall leftie oppo. Set 4 swung back to the Orcas, with yet another LL team showing that having a tough server can win you a lot of points. So to set 5, a tense and thrilling conclusion, despite the best efforts of the Polars and their loyal fan base, Orcas ran out winners making it a 3-2 marathon game.
Safety for Orcas
Playoffs for Polar Bears
More volleyball for the bears ladies in this long season!
Congrats to for her MVB performance.
On we go to Bethnal Green!
