Club Restructure
Following the conclusion of the cricket season the committee undertook a review of the position of the club both on and off the field. Numerous discussions were held with players, members and supporters to gain a good understanding of views and commitments towards the upcoming season.
Whilst there are huge positives for the future, namely the development of the youth section, upgrading of the club house, net facilities and artificial strip, there were concerns raised over the ability to field competitive teams at the current standard of cricket.
There has been a reduction in playing members due to retirements, players moving away or to other clubs and family commitments over a period of time. We have happily welcomed new members to the club but there has been an overall net deficit in numbers. There was therefore a need for the committee to act to ensure members can enjoy competitive cricket and to facilitate a pathway for future cricketers. With this in mind, the committee approached the league to raise its concerns.
After conversations with the league, they suggested that the First XI could move Division F and the Second XI to Division L. Although this may be slightly lower than desired, this allows the club to step back, for the teams to find their level in the leagues and provide a platform for longevity and future success. We are sure through unity, hard work and commitment, the club will come back strong, with strong foundations for growth through the integration of junior members and creating an environment for competitive and enjoyable cricket. Through this there should be no reason why we cannot climb up the divisions. The view is that this is one step back to take greater strides forward in the future.
To help achieve these longer-term aspirations, there has already been significant investment in our club house and training facilities with the artificial wicket and batting cage. This will enhance training and coaching opportunities for our senior and junior sections. We are thankful to the ECB, local charities and government for their financial support with this. There is a commitment to keep driving the club forward off the back of this, to create an initial five year plan and wewelcome engagement and support from our members, players and their families.
The winter nets have been booked for both juniors and seniors and for the first time we have entered a junior side into the indoor winter league. We wish them all the success in the competition.
As a club we are looking forward to the coming season and would like to thank you as players, parents and supporters for your continued support and wish you all a prosperous 2026!
