After a great start of the season we ended up with about 9 players out injured and the team fell away we’ve managed to struggle through and win in the cup last week against bellshill and we are also in to a semi final of another cup

Today we took on Uddingston Atheltic in a friendly due to having a free week again we we were down to bair bones with 13 players available one being the manager

We started off the game brilliant and scoring a few early goals unfortunately lost our keeper Ciaran to a shoulder injury and big Welshy taking the responsibility and going in goals

Wee bear just back from injury and last week got a couple of goals in the cup and today scored 5 “ FEED THE BEAR AND HEAR HIM ROAR “

The boys were outstanding today tbf and it probs could have been a lot more but going in the right direction and a good feeling about the team again

League fixture number 2

Westwood afc 4 v 1 thorniewood utd

5 mins in to the game we went goal behind poor defending seen us having to regroup we missed couple great chances then finally found the net with a great strike from Leon Simeon soon it was 2-1 and a great team goal which seen Jamie Murray square the ball to jamie McCrindle to tap in to go in 2-1 up at half time.

Second half was more of a battle between both sides with conditions not the greatest for getting the ball down and play, 25 mins left to play Callan Edmond scores a 30 yard rocket what a hit followed by a Jamie Murray goal from corner to make it 4-1 and secure the 3 points judy Murray would be proud of his performance tonight.

Special mention to big Welshy and Calum Thom who suffered bad injuries speedy recovery lads.

Westwood 2 v 0 Blantyre soccer academy


First league game of the season today saw Westwood claim the 3 points. The bear fired wessie in to a well deserved half time lead when great play down the right side from keeper threw defence to attack and mcrindle was there to slot home could have scored couple more if it wasn’t for opposition keeper making few great saves.

Second half we Managed to get the second goal of the game with a great 20 yards shot finish from mcrindle keeper no chance with Blantyre throwing everything they had late on game management was spot on to keep the clean sheet and 3 points.

League game

Westwood afc 5 V 2 St rochs amateurs

Chance to make it 5 league wins in a row for the new management team and the team delivered that. First 30 mins racing in to a 2 goal lead with goals from nathan fell and a darryl naismith free kick to go in at half time 2 up.

Second half started on the front foot and the ginger fat bear aka Jamie mcrindle having coming on at half time scores within 2 mins of being on the pitch to make it 3 with a assisted cut back from Naismith. A crazy 10 min spell where st rocks got a penalty and James scott gets his 2 hands to it but couldn’t keep it out 3-1 and game on 5 mins later soon to be 3-2 with a superb strike.

Several chances missed to extend our lead and st rocks looking dangerous we then go up the gears with 2 great team goals 1 from callan and mcrindle gets his second of the match special mention to Stuart gauley with his assisted pass for the 4th goal today that was naughty.

Westwood looking to continue there run since coming back and we managed to do that some of the football we have been playing has been brilliant to watch the last few weeks we’ve had no problems scoring goals but unfortunately we’ve been conceding them also but today we stuck with it and won the game very comfortably 6-2 and it could have probs been a few more.

Westwood 5 V Stratton 2

Match details yesterday seen William Mcclure taking his first game in charge of Westwood and the boys get off to a cracking start some changes made to the team.

Westwood go in at half time 3-0 up but we knew that can all change as it happened in the first game against Stratton wen we lost from a 4-0 lead against them in the first game of the season

Stratton came out the 2nd half and scored quickly and you could see they were starting to put on the pressure the boys kept our shape really well and listened to the instructions brilliantly we then make it 4-1 and get back to doing what we had been doing all game playing some cracking football and kept our discipline. The game then finishes 5-2

Match Result

Today it seen us take on Glasgow Wellington this is our 3rd time playing them this season it’s always been a great match.

Glasgow Wellington took the lead through a penalty. We then get a goal back from Jamie McCrindle. Then Glasgow Wellington take the league again through an own goal from us. Again McCrindle gets us level. We then go on to take the lead with 5 mins to go McCrindle getting his 3rd of the game and then we give away a penalty in added on time.

A big of a crazy game for us given away 2 penalties and an own goal but again we’re still unbeaten since returning back from the break and adding points on to the table.
