S Dickson Cycling

S Dickson Cycling I'm Steve Dickson and I volunteer with Sustrans at my local Active Travel Hub in Ayr. I'm trying t I’d be more than happy to hear from you.

I have been a Sustrans volunteer for several years now and as such volunteer at my local Active Travel Hub in Ayr, Scotland. At the hub I’m a ride leader, walk leader, and have my silver Velotech bike mechanic qualification which is great for Dr Bike sessions. Hopefully, after the pandemic, I will be partaking in Bikeability training so that I can teach cycling to both adults and local school chil

dren. I started this page as I have begun cycling my local parts of the National Cycle Network and filming them on my GoPro. During my time at The Hub I have had several conversations with people who said they would use the NCN but were afraid they’d get lost. I have filmed it so that they can view all of that part of the route and join it wherever they want. The videos are available on this page but are also available on my You Tube channel in HD at:

www.YouTube.com/c/SDicksonCycling

There are also some cycle maintenance videos to help you keep that prize possession going strong. This page also covers many other aspects of cycling including my exploits on my turbo trainer and on Zwift. As a member of the club I participate in many club activities including Sunday rides and team trial races. I also have another cycling page at:

https://www.facebook.com/NationalCycleNetwork

On this page I have my videos and also also include/share relevant Sustrans posts and news articles for your information. I wish you all happy cycling and please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions about my volunteering with Sustrans, the National Cycle Network or cycling either indoor or outdoor.

Distance: Approx. 4.5 km
Time: Approx 1.0 to 1.5 Hours

Starting at Ayr College Car Park we walk eastwards along the north bank of the River Ayr to the A77 and back along the south bank. Whilst this filmed walk went along the north bank of the river first, the walk can obviously done in the opposite way. There are also a couple of different ways to walk over the golf course adding/subtracting a small amount to the distance of the walk.

This walk can be very muddy at time and strong waterproof footwear is recommended. There are a few climbs but they are not particularily long or taxing.

Recovery Workout 30 mins on on Whole Lotta Lava on

Doing small rides and walks for a couple of weeks to get back into this. That was sore due to not being on in a few weeks. Sore but a good kind of sore as Oor Rosco would say!

Only doing wee small rides and walks for a couple of weeks to get me back into this. That was amazingly sore due to not being on in a few weeks. Feels good though. Sore but a good kind of sore as Oor Rosco would say!!!

Recovery Workout Wk1 Day2 from TrainingPeaks on Serpentine 8 on Zwift

Glad that’s over. Happy to do that route and cross it off as I’ll never do it again. All on that tediously boring slow dirt track which probably takes off about 10kph of your speed. Only track in Watopia I know that at a 3% downhill gradient you can stop pedalling and almost come to a halt immediately as if you were going uphill. Tedious in the extreme. Also not helped by a 7.5km lead in which I hadn’t noticed originally.

This is definitely going to be a bit of a long road. Fitness and endurance disappears so quickly and is so hard to get back.

Clear winter days are a glorious time to cycle, but its best to head out with a few precautions.

Recovery Workout 1 with TrainingPeaks on Beach Island Loop on Zwift

First ride in a month or so after heart attack diagnosis. Taking it easy and trying to build back up again. Might be a bit of a long road. Lost so much endurance.
