September Medal results.

The September Medal took place on September 9/11/12/13 playing over Seafield golf course from the black tees and the with the rough still thick and penal and the weather variable across the four playing days of the event, it was clear from the scores that the course was in charge as only our winner managed to break par.

In 3rd place, fresh from his victory in the Tam O Shanter Club Championship (for the 3rd time), and with the best gross score of 71 (2 over par) was Alan Smeeton. Birdies on holes 3/6/12 equated to a nett 70 (1 over par). Matching the score of nett 70 was our own recently crowned 7-time Club Champion, Robert Gilchrist, who with a birdie at hole 2 and a level par inward half of 36 shots, elevated himself to the runner-up spot on countback.

Our clear winner this week was Michael Duffy with a nett 67 (2 under par) and indeed the margin of victory might have been bigger but for the quadruple bogey 8 at hole 10. Gerry Cavanagh and Alan Smeeton both fired birdie 2's at hole 3 and so they share the prize pot from the last 2 weeks.

As this week's winner, Michael joins Scott Kirk, Ronnie Lees, Jonathon Goodlet, Tony Bloor, Gordon Christie, John Brodie (two wins) and Alan Muir (three wins) in the field for the Medal Final at Seafield.

For the mathematicians out there the twelth monthly Medal was won by Stan Smith in December but as we all know Stan is currently recuperating from his stroke and is unable to compete.

All other entrants this week will be playing for the Consolation Trophy which is awarded to the best finisher in the field who has not previously won a strokeplay event. Good luck to everyone taking part.

Chase Quaich results.

The Chase Quaich took place on September 2/4/5/6 playing over Seafield golf course from the black tees and with the rough still penal and the weather variable across the four playing days, good scoring was at a premium as 25 members braved course and elements.

We had only 4 scores of par or better (36pts+) with Alan Smeeton and Scott Cassidy vying for 3rd spot on 36pts. Alan fired birdies at holes 5/16/17 but with birdies at holes 10/13/14/16, Scott managed to push his way onto the podium at Alan's expense.

Runner-up with 37pts was Peter Cavanagh and continuing his fine form from Girvan, Peter came home with an inward half of 21pts and snatched 2nd spot.

Our clear winner this week with 40pts, was newly crowned 7-time Club Champion, Robert Gilchrist, with a magnificent gross 69 (level par) including birdies at holes 13/18 for a clear victory.

We had no Two's scored this week so the prize pot rolls over to this week's Medal event.

Chase Club Championship Final 2026.

The Chase Club Championship Final was played today (Friday) as defending Champion, Alan Smeeton took on Robert Gilchrist over Seafield golf course from the black tees.

With the penal rough still in place and squally showers and gusty winds, good golf was at a premium in this the Club's premier event.

It was Robert Gilchrist who drew first blood in the Final when par was good enough to win the 2nd hole and his lead was doubled when he made par after a dreadful tee shot at hole 4.

A poor tee shot from Alan, into the whin bush on the left side of hole 7 meant Robert was 3up and as the wind got up, both players found themselves hitting driver into the par 3 ninth hole which was halved in 4 shots.

With his title on the line, Alan Smeeton fought back superbly to win holes 11/12 with par golf and when he won hole 14 with a par, the match was suddenly all square with momentum seemingly with the defending Champion.

However, a poor tee shot from Alan at hole 15 saw momentum shift again as Robert won the hole and when he birdied hole 16, Robert was suddenly on the cusp of victory.

This duly came when hole 17 was halved leaving Robert victorious by 2&1 and Robert now draws level with Alan as both have secured 7 victories each in this event.

Captain’s Day 2026 results.

This year's Captains Day took place once again at Girvan golf course on Saturday August 29th playing from the white tees and the course was in fabulous condition, which contributed to the good scoring on the day.

Due to the continued non-provision of catering facilities within the Clubhouse we once again followed last year's successful format with the same arrangements.

We played only one round of stroke play golf on the day with an early tee time start of 09.00am and my thanks to Golf South Ayrshire for allowing the Chase GC early access to the tee times.

With three separate events, all players faced the possibility of competing with 3 different playing handicaps (front 9/back 9/18 holes) although our usual Chase GC restriction of 28 stroke handicap for 18 hole events was applied to the overall 18 hole Captains Day Quaich competition.

The front 9 was played for the Ronnie Montgomery Trophy (members) and in 3rd spot with a nett 30 (2 under par) was Ian Speirs. Runner-up with a nett 29 (3 under par) was Mark Mancini who was pipped to the top spot on countback by Peter Cavanagh, courtesy of a better last 6 holes.

The back 9 was played for the Ian Smith Trophy (members) and in 3rd spot, via countback, with a nett 29 (3 under par) was Peter Cavanagh.

Runner-up with the same score but a better last 6 holes was Brian Kelsey but our winner with an excellent nett 28, (4 under par) was Alan Muir.

We offered four chances to win Nearest the pin on holes 5/10/14/18 and on hole 5, Club Captain Gerry Cavanagh fired a 5 wood, 171yds into the cup for a hole-in-one and drinks all round back at the Chase Inn, fantastic start to the day.

On hole 10, Dougie Beattie was closest at 16ft but failed to convert for the birdie and the same fate befell Club Champion, Alan Smeeton whose effort from 19ft on hole 14 just missed.

It was left to Scott Kirk on hole 18 to hole from 5ft for his 2 (his second of the day) to complete the NTP prize winners.

Once again, we were lucky to have visitors competing in our event and thanks to William Frew (Glenluce), Dave McKay (East Kilbride) and the newly-wed Andy Gibson (Ayr Seafield) for joining us this year.

It was Dave McKay who took away the spoils with a nett 66 (2 over par) and his round contained a solitary birdie at hole 4 as he picked up prizes donated by Richard Gordon (PGA professional at Belleisle Park) and our own Jim Burnett - my thanks to them both.

The best gross score was fired by Alan Smeeton whose 67 (3 over par) contained birdies at holes 9/16/18 and not surprisingly Alan also claimed the Fred Gerrish trophy for the best gross score on the eight par 3 holes with a tally of 26 shots.

As usual the battle for the overall Captains Day Quaich was a tight affair with eight players scoring par or better on the day.

In 5th spot with a nett 62 (2 under par) was David Edgar who scored a solitary birdie at hole 5.

Just beating David on countback (bk9) and finishing 4th was Brian Kelsey who was beaten to 3rd spot by Alan Muir with a nett 61 (3 under par) which contained birdies at holes 4/16.

Runner-up with a nett 60 (4 under par) was Peter Cavanagh who must have regretted his horrendous opening hole where he started with a ten (10). It is to Peter's credit that he never gave up and came so close to winning the overall event.

Our winner this year with a fine score of nett 59 (5 under par) was Mark Mancini with his round containing birdies at holes 8/16 as he triumphed by a single stroke.

The prize presentation, with hot and cold buffet provided, took place in the lounge bar of the Chase Inn and my thanks to Elaine and Stephen Kelly for the use of the facilities and to John, Jack and Claire for their efforts behind the bar.

Finally, my thanks to everyone who attended and made the day such a success and hopefully we may do it all again next year.

Dalmilling Shield 3 results.

The final Dalmilling Shield event took place on August 19/21/22/23 over Dalmilling golf course from the black tees or yellow tees, with handicaps adjusted accordingly and 15 members battled penal rough and rolling fairways in search of victory.

Scoring was tough with no one able to beat the stiff par of 70 strokes so clearly the course won the battle against the players.

In 3rd spot with a nett 73 (3 over par) was Gordon Christie whose double bogey finish probably cost him a higher podium finish.

Runner-up this week with a nett 72 (2 over par) was Ronnie Lees who again suffered the anguish of a double bogey finish which ultimately cost him not just the chance to win this week's event but also had consequences for the overall title result.

This weeks winner with a nett 71 (1 over par) was Dougie Beattie whose round contained birdies at all the par 5 holes, 1/14/17, on his way to a single stroke margin of victory.

We had a couple of two's in this weeks event by Gerry Cavanagh at hole 4 and Jimmy Bryden at hole 6 but as Jimmy does not the competition Gerry picks up the prize spoils by himself.

In the overall competition which is a best 2 from 3 scores event we had a tie at the top of the leaderboard.

Remember I mentioned Ronnie Lees and his double bogey at the last hole having consequences, the outcome after the 3 rounds meant a tie at the top between Ian Young and (you guessed it) Ronnie Lees on 140, level par, with Ian Young coming out on top via the countback system.

Taj Trophy results.

The Taj Trophy took place on August 12/14/15/16 over Lochgreen golf course from the white or yellow tees, with handicaps adjusted accordingly.

Only 14 members braved the firm, running fairways and subtle contoured greens on this former Open Qualifying layout where scoring was difficult with only the winner firing under par.

We had 2 players tied on nett 75 (1 over par) as brothers Peter and Gerry Cavanagh battled for a podium place.

Peter fired his only birdie at hole 16 with Gerry having birdies at holes 1/4 and going on to pip Peter on countback for 3rd spot.

Runner-up with a nett 74 (level par) was Ian Speirs who was progressing well by the turn only to falter towards the finishing line with an inward half containing only 1 par coming home.

winner this week with a nett 72 (2 under par) was John Brodie with his round containing birdies at holes 6/13. The winning margin of two strokes might have been greater but for the triple bogeys at holes 3/11.

The only Two this week was fired by John Brodie at hole 6 as he arrowed his tee shot into 12 inches for the tap-in birdie and so John picks up the prize pot by himself.

August Medal result.

The August Medal took place on August 5/7/8/9 over Seafield golf course from the black tees and the course once again was still running fast with the rough thick and penal.

Only the top 2 on the podium fired scores near par or better as again the course ruined many scorecards.

We had 3 players tied on nett 71 (2 over par) but Michael Duffy and John Brodie were pipped on countback by Billy Rae helped by his solitary birdie on hole 12.

Runner-up with a nett 69 (level par), was Mark Mancini who fired a birdie at hole 3 but his opportunity to take the top spot was hampered by the quadruple bogey 7 at hole 15.

Our winner, fresh from his triumph in the Seniors Championship, was Gordon Christie whose round contained birdies at holes 5/14 giving him a two stroke margin of victory.

The only Two this week was scored by Mark Mancini at hole 3 so he picks up the prize pot all on his own.

Seniors Championship results.

The Seniors Championship took place on July/Aug 29/31/1/2 over Seafield golf course from the black tees and despite some rain falling, the course was still running firm with the rough still thick and penal.

With lots of members on holiday or not of Senior age limit, the field was restricted as only eleven managed to play in the event.

Only the podium finishers shot par or better as once again the course provided a stiff test of golf. In 3rd spot with the best gross score of 72 (3 over par), was 7-time Club Champion, Alan Smeeton with his round containing birdies at holes 5/14/17 as he fired a nett 69 (level par).

Also shooting nett 69 was John Brodie whose chances of victory were scuppered following a poor outward 9 which contained only 4 pars. The inward half was a different story as John came home in 37 shots (1 over par) to pip Alan on countback for the runner-up spot.

Our winner this week was Gordon Christie with a fine nett 67 (2 under par) which gave him a comfortable 2 shot margin of victory.

There was only 1 Two recorded this week by Billy Rae at the opening hole but as Billy does not enter this event, the prize pot rolls on to next week's competition.

Dalmilling Shield 2 results.

The second installment of the Dalmilling Shield took place on July 22/24/25/26 over Dalmilling golf course from either the black or yellow tees, with handicaps adjusted accordingly and a field of 21 players took on the rolling fairways and penal rough on the now Par 70 golf course.

The best gross score of 72 (2 over par) was fired by Scott Kirk and the round contained birdies at holes 6/17. Unfortunately the triple bogey 7 at hole 12 robbed Scott of both a podium place and a chance to win the event.

We had two players tied on nett 68 (2 under par) with Ronnie Lees firing birdies on holes 6/16. However, Ian Young managed to equal his score and then pip Ronnie on countback for third spot. Runner-up with a nett 67 (3 under par) was Club Captain, Gerry Cavanagh and his round contained a solitary birdie at hole 17.

Also with a nett 67, was Kyle Bendall whose own birdie came at hole 11 which helped Kyle to relegate Gerry off the top spot on countback.

We had 5 Two's recorded this week with Ronnie Lees, Scott Kirk and Alan Muir all making birdie at hole 6, with Gordon Christie and David Edgar making birdie at hole 15.

As Gordon does not enter the two's event the prize pot is shared among the other 4 guys.

This event is a best 2 from 3 scores series and with the final event still to be played, the competition has joint leaders with Ian Young and Ronnie Lees currently tied on 140 strokes.

Roy McCubbin Memorial Cup results.

The innaugural Roy McCubbin Memorial Cup took place on July 15/17/18/19 over Seafield golf course, just over 17 months from Roy's passing.

Roy was a lovely man with a soft spot for Liverpool F.C., horse racing but above all else his family and is sorely missed by all who knew him.

From the black tees and with fast running fairways, penal rough and firm greens the course presented quite a challenge for the 23 participants, as less than 30% of the field managed to score par or better.

In 3rd spot with a nett 67 (2 under par) was Club Captain, Gerry Cavanagh with his round containing birdies at holes 5/6.

Runner-up was Billy Rae with a nett 66 (3 under par) including a birdie at hole 12. Unfortunately, the triple bogey at hole 7 probably cost him a shot at the top of the podium.

clear winner this week was Alan Muir continuing his fine season as he fired birdies at holes 1/5/13 on his way to both the best gross score of 71 (2 over par) which became a nett 64 (5 under par) giving him a two shot margin of victory.

We had Two's this week from Gordon Christie at hole 3, Alan Muir at hole 1 and John Taylor at hole 9 but with Gordon not entering this event the prize pot is split between Alan and John.
