📅 Two Events, One Date For Your Diary! 📅

At the beginning of October, the club will have two events happening on the same day!

Marathon Challenge 2026

The club are undertaking a Marathon Challenge again this year and it will be held on Saturday 3rd October 2026, between 9am and 1pm.

The event will be hosted at Stoke Mandeville Stadium and begin at 9am. The event is for any club athlete across all age groups and training groups. We also welcome parents to come and support the challenge as well.

The event will be raising money for Wheelpower, a charity that is based at Stoke Mandeville Stadium and has been providing opportunities for people with physical impairments to take part in sport for over 75 years.

Details on how to sign up to the Marathon Challenge will be provided in the coming days.

CLUB AWARDS NIGHT

This years club awards night will also be taking place on Saturday 3rd October but will be based at Rivets Sports & Social Club and the evening will begin at 7pm.

🆘 Match Officials Required 🆘

Every time our athletes attend a YDL league match, or any other athletics competition, Officials ensure that the event takes place.
A competition cannot happen without Officials.

When a team cannot provide a full squad of Officials at any YDL match (min 5 Officials), that team risks having points deducted from their match score. Not something we want to happen when athletes have worked hard as a team to gain as many points as possible.

Qualifying is simple. Attend a virtual course, varying from 2 to 4 hours, often split across 2 evenings. Complete self-paced online modules for Safeguarding and First-aid / Health & Safety, complete a UK DBS and upload a photo for your licence.

The cost of your qualification is refunded by the Club and a VoAAC Officials T-shirt is provided to be worn at competitions.

All we ask is that you attend club league matches as often as you can to support both YDL age groups and the Seniors if possible.
You will be joining a friendly group of existing Club Officials, creating new friends, who will encourage and support you throughout your journey.

You will also be offered the opportunity to support Schools athletics and other events throughout the year.

You never know, this could be the start of a new hobby.

Gold for Gabriella in Bedford!

The England Athletics Age Group Championships have been taking place in Bedford this weekend and our very own Gabriella has just taken the gold medal in the U16 Girls 800m final!

She won her heat yesterday in 2mins 10.93secs (less than 0.5seconds away from her PB) and less than 10minutes ago she timed her kick for the line to perfection and won the final in 2mins 12.51secs.

Congratulations Gabriella! National Champion! 👏
