I’m absolutely chuffed to have won the NPA Masters British title at 55, 20 years after my last competition. 🏆

I’m very critical of myself, though, and looking at these photos, I can see that I wasn’t showing my physique at its best because of the restrictions from my shoulder replacements. Even though I’d been practising my posing every day, I didn’t realise how much it was affecting my presentation until I saw these pictures.

Here I am backstage under two different lights before getting on stage. Posing for these photos was also a good way to get a pump, so thanks to Carlos. The only real chest pump you can get backstage is with press-ups, but because of my shoulder replacements, I was nervous about doing them and have always been very careful.

It wasn’t until I entered the last class alongside the overall pros that Tony Barnes had looked at my photos and pointed out that, compared with the pictures he’d seen of me on social media, I didn’t have the same chest pump.

I thought, right, I’ve got to give it a go — and thankfully, it was absolutely fine. Thanks, Tone. 👌

I also have to remind myself that I haven’t trained properly since 2019. Since June 2023, I’ve been rebuilding my physique after my shoulder replacements, and this was my first show in 20 years.

Normally, I’d do a few qualifiers and improve with every show. This time, I had no choice it was straight into the finals. 😱

So you could say I’m a little rusty! 😂

There’s definitely more posing to be done. 💪

It’s finally brought me to the goal. This morning, I’m competing for the first time in 20 years, in the Masters Over 50s.

When I started making these videos almost a year ago, I was embarrassed. I knew some people were probably laughing, but I turned that into motivation — month after month, another video and another step closer.

After a six-year period where I thought bodybuilding was over for me, years of arthritis, two shoulder replacements and being told I wouldn’t train again, to be standing on that stage today feels almost unbelievable.

I’m sharing this to show that age doesn’t have to be a barrier. Whatever your age or whatever life has thrown at you, if there’s something you still want to achieve, don’t be afraid to chase it.

If this inspires even one person to believe that it’s still possible, then it’s all been worthwhile. 🙏💪🏆 onetoone

Even though Body Flex Gym has closed, the spirit of that place still lives on.

“Who you surround yourself with, you become.” No truer words were ever said.

Back in 1997, I wanted to become a British champion, and in 2003 I was fortunate enough to achieve that for the first time. In the years that followed, these two went on to achieve the same goal themselves. Even after I retired from competitive bodybuilding in 2006, we were always there for one another whenever we wanted to compete.

After Body Flex closed, life took us in different directions, as it often does. Years passed, but the friendship and memories never really went away. Then, when I decided to return to the stage this year after 20 years and reached out for their support, they were right back in my corner, just like old times.

Now they’re both personal trainers, carrying that same passion forward and inspiring others.

The gym may be gone, and those days may be behind us, but the friendships, memories and spirit of Body Flex will always remain. Some things simply stay with you, no matter how much time passes. ❤️💪

Someone once said to me "You only look that good because of the tan" the reason we put fake tan on is because of the stage lights. Lights that otherwise wash out muscle definition and make physiques look flat.

I have to thank this man for being in my corner once again, 20 years later. He’s always been someone who tells me the truth, even when it’s not what I want to hear. I know he was doubtful about my comeback in the early days, but over the last few weeks, he started to believe that maybe I really could do it.

Well… we did it! 💪🏆

But having him back by my side after 20 years means more to me than I can put into words. We shared so many moments back then, and to have him standing beside me again for this comeback, after everything I’ve been through, was incredibly emotional.

For a moment, it felt like the last 20 years had disappeared. Two old friends, back together, sharing the same journey again. ❤️

Some reunions are more than just seeing an old friend — they bring a piece of your past back to life.

We did it, mate. 20 years later. 🙏❤️🏆

Hey everyone, thank you so much for all the private messages and incredible support. I’m honestly overwhelmed and absolutely over the moon to have won the Masters title. After 20 years away from the stage, two shoulder replacements and a period where I genuinely thought my bodybuilding journey was over, this really is the icing on the cake. ❤️

I was so overwhelmed when they announced my name that I actually missed the fact that I’d also won a Pro Card! That meant I was invited to compete against the other Pro Card winners. I didn’t win the overall, but I was absolutely chuffed to stand on that stage alongside other pros I’ve admired for years. Just being there was something I never thought would happen again.

I was also invited to compete in the Overall Masters, bringing together the Over 40s, 50s and 60s. I was beaten by a fantastic champion, Tony Barnes, and it was an honour to share the stage with him.

I’ve still got another show in two weeks. To be honest, after everything that’s happened, I could quite easily say I’ve done enough and walk away on a high. But of course I’m going to do it! 😂 There’s still one more stage to enjoy.

What makes all of this so emotional for me is that six years ago, I genuinely thought my hobby and passion of 40 years was over. After the arthritis, the pain and two shoulder replacements, I never imagined I’d be standing under those lights again — let alone winning a Masters title and earning a Pro Card.

So whatever happens from here, I’m incredibly grateful. The comeback itself was the miracle. Everything else is just the icing on the cake. 🙏❤️

Sorry if I haven’t replied to everyone yet — I’ve been absolutely bombarded with messages and I’m trying my best to get through them all.

Thank you all so much for being part of this journey. It means more than you know.

Speak tomorrow ❤️🙏

My final comparison — 2006 to now.

And now it’s time to turn the page and see what tomorrow brings.

Twenty years ago, I walked off that stage never imagining it would be two decades before I stood on it again. After developing severe arthritis in my shoulders and eventually having both shoulders replaced, there were six years when I genuinely believed my bodybuilding journey was over.

For someone who has loved this hobby for 40 years, that was a difficult thing to accept.

To now be standing here again, preparing to walk back onto that stage, is something I still struggle to put into words. It feels like a miracle. 🙏

Whatever happens tomorrow, I’m already incredibly grateful. No placing, trophy or result can take away what it means to have fought my way back from something I thought had ended my journey.

Tomorrow, I turn the page.

Just being back on that stage again is the icing on the cake. ❤️
