We are sure you are all aware of the concerns surrounding recent Cycle Funding awarded through The Cairngorms National Park, Cairngorms 2030 Programme
Although we were awarded a small grant through the recent fund, it really is a drop in the ocean compared to what else has been awarded. We applied for two reasons.
1. To cover our costs for events we run, and have run over the past 18 years at the shop, free of charge to our loyal customer base and local riders. We were aware that activities that we run are being replicated (which simply dilutes the market). We applied to this fund to protect our hard work and ensure a small part of this fund is spent on locals and activities with proven success.
2. We have missed out on funding/tendering opportunities in the past and had to try.
However, in light of other businesses' experiences, and added pressure on our business, due to the direct result of the recently funded projects we have decided to decline our grant. We have outlined our reasons to the Cairngorms National Park today.
We have a number of concerns over what is going on, based on evidence and experience we have from over 18 years of running our family business in The Cairngorm National Park. We are not just jumping on the bandwagon.
As per others we all live here and are passionate about where we live and our hobby. We are not just ticking boxes.
We would like to take this time to say thank you to Ride Scotland and others for echoing our views.
Letβs hope this is the start of fairer and more positive times.
P.S, here are some great memories from the shop over the years⦠we will keep going!
