Introducing the Junior Volunteer Award Scheme!

Scottish Orienteering is excited to introduce a brand‑new Junior Volunteer Awards Scheme, created to recognise and encourage juniors who are taking their first steps into volunteering. Juniors will be able to collect points and earn prizes for their volunteering.

The scheme will be officially launched on Sunday at the Jamie Stevenson Trophy

⭐ Highlighting Wednesday Evening Summer Orienteering ⭐

With the longer Summer evenings many of our clubs have been holding Wednesday evening events.

First of all, happy 50th birthday to Grampian Orienteering Club who were celebrating 50 years since Gramp adopted a formal constitution in 1976. Gramp held an event at Balmedie as part of their Summer Series followed by a meal.

Also in the North, Inverness Orienteering Club held an event at Lochardil.

Solway Orienteers have also been hosting regular Wednesday evening events with an event at Dalbeattie Town Wood last night. Also in the west, STAG - St Andrew's Orienteering Club of Glasgow and Clydeside Orienteers have been holding their Greater Glasgow series. Last night Clyde held an event at Knockmountain, Kilmacolm.

Last night East Lothian Orienteers held another ever popular Sprintelope. The Sprintelope series is shared between Edinburgh Southern Orienteering Club Interlopers Orienteering Club - Edinburgh and Kingdom of Fife Orienteers.

⭐ Monday Roundup ⭐

Last weekend Edinburgh Southern Orienteering Club held a local event at Riccarton. The TD1-3 juniors enjoyed a coaching session including a maze! Forth Valley Orienteers also did junior training.

The Jukola relay is the largest orienteering relay in the world seeing tens of thousands of people taking on the forests of Finland. A number of our members are taking on the challenge of the Jukola and Venla relays this weekend and so we wanted to wish everyone good luck.

One week on, we reflect on the success of the 2026 Scottish Schools Orienteering Festival. Over 400 pupils descended on the woodlands of Beecraigs Country Park, the largest number of pupils we have seen at this event in recent years. It was great to see so many smiling faces despite the challenging weather conditions.

A huge thanks must be extended to all the event volunteers that helped make the event run smoothly on the day and assisted in preparations beforehand. Also thanks go to teachers and parents who helped prepare pupils and ensured they were able to attend. And of course congratulations to all the pupils that successfully navigated their courses! Next year's event will be held on the first Thursday of June. We are looking forward to it already!

Junior Interareas- SAVE THE DATE

The Interarea competition is a highlight of the junior calendar where juniors from across Scotland come together for a weekend of orienteering! The weekend includes two orienteering events including a relay and an overnight stay in a hostel. Interareas is suitable for all experience levels. This year the weekend will take place on 31st October- 1st November in the East Area.

The Jamie Stevenson Trophy is an annual inter-club competition for junior orienteers in Scotland. This year the competition will take place at Hermitage Woods, Stirling University, on Sunday 21st June. This is a great event for juniors of all abilities to meet, socialise and compete against each other. There will be a parade, warm-up and challenges for all to enjoy as well as the orienteering.
