🐦‍⬛🏏

After a long, dry, hot summer, the rain truly arrived for Rocklands 1st XI’s last game of the season – but by reducing the number of overs per innings to 20, they managed to squeeze a game in against Hingham.

Hingham, batting first, scored 141-4 in their 20 overs with wickets for George and Ralph Garrod, Chris Howes and Henry Ashton.

And with a catch and a stumping our outstanding wicketkeeper, Will Defoe, took his season tally of dismissals to 18, 2nd place in the league. 👏

In reply, openers Ralph Garrod (35 with 2x4s and 2x6s) and Amos Coates (31 with 2x4s and a 6) put on 65.

But despite Sam Palmer’s unbeaten 33 (2x4s and a 6) and Will Defoe’s 17 (1x4), Rocklands ultimately fell 13 runs short of their target.

No matter, it didn’t affect their final league position as they ended in a highly respectable 4th place. 👏

Finally, congratulations to 15 year old Callum Oswick, who made his 1st team debut and acquitted himself well. 💪

🐦‍⬛🏏

Rocklands 2nd XI secured a position as champions last weekend, so yesterday’s game was more meaningful for their opposition who were trying to join them in getting promoted.

Batting first, the Rocklands innings was dominated by Simon Clarke, who struck 7 4s and 4 6s in his hard-hit 74. That was a personal best and maiden 50 - well batted Simon 👏🏏

Alas, Gurpal Singh with 14 was the only other batter to reach double figures, and they ended with 124 from their rain-reduced 20 overs.

In reply, Hardingham knocked off the runs with more than 5 overs to spare. George Wells and Emily Dwight shared the two wickets to fall.

🌧️ This was a game played under grey, leaden skies with drizzle and worse – so well done to both teams for completing it.

🏏🐦‍⬛

Rocklands 1st XI’s hot streak continued with a convincing 79-run victory at Cromer on Saturday. 🔥

Put into bat on a testing, green-tinged wicket softened by recent rain, Rocklands’ batters had to work hard for their runs.

🏏 Openers Amos Coates (58) and Andrew Thresh (47) - both of whom have had impressive seasons - set the foundation, and captain Ralph Garrod continued the good work with 50, taking his league run tally above 500.

Will Defoe (21) and Freddie Gent (11*) also chipped in towards the end, and the Rooks posted 223-8 from their 45 overs.

That score looked even more competitive after a blistering start to their bowling as George Garrod and Luke Paterson reduced the hosts to 13 for 4, all clean bowled.

It would be an understatement to say that 16-year-old George is in form! Having taken 5-21 against Aylsham last Saturday, he ended with 4-14 today. Combine the two, and that’s 9 for 35! 💪

He now has 26 league wickets this season — 3rd in the division and one behind teammate Daisy Eke, who added another two at Cromer for just 13 runs from 6 typically economical overs.

Henry Ashton also claimed 2 wickets (including a key one with his slower ball) and Sam Palmer a run out as Cromer were bowled out for 144 in 34.3 overs.

That made it 4 consecutive wins and moves Ralph’s young side (10 of the line up at Cromer were aged 24 years old or younger) into 4th place, 4 points behind Mundford, with one league game left.

🏆 Rocklands 2nds had no game on Saturday as their opposition conceded. It mathematically confirmed their position as champions.

Champions! 🏆 🐦‍⬛

Rocklands 2nd XI team have won promotion from the Norfolk Cricket League Division 4 (South East)!

They were nearly there as they prepared for their scheduled game on Saturday with a formidable 40 point lead at the top of the table and first place and promotion was mathematically confirmed today following a concession by their opponents who are unable to raise a team.

Massive congratulations to captain Gurpal Singh, vice captain’s Matt Barnett and Matt Mann and each one of the 30 who have all played their part in a superb team effort.

They’ve lost just two games out of 15 and are fully deserved winners.

Although there has been some consistently standout performances from the seniors, the contributions from a host of young talent progressing through the club’s outstanding Junior section have been equally inspiring.

They’ll be more to follow…

Congratulations to 16 year old George Garrod for his place on the Norfolk Bowling Honours Board for his 5 wickets for 21 runs at home to Aylsham CC in the 1st Team win on Saturday 👏

George is our 1st Team opening bowler and another former All Star who has taken a senior 5 wicket haul to earn his place on the club Honours Board for the first time.

Well done George!
