As a club we are beyond disappointed after our home ground was savagely vandalised last weekend.
We first learned about the damage on Friday night, and with a lot of effort, our lads managed to mend the damage so that our game was playable. Unfortunately, this effort was all for nothing as the pitch was further vandalised on the Saturday night, leaving us with an unplayable pitch.
We refused to let these acts of cowardice affect the clubs spirit and carried out last week's game at Leigh Sports Village. This carries great cost, and is not something a small club like ourselves can facilitate on a weekly basis.
All of us at AFC Atherleigh want to make other clubs aware of the current threat posed by these individuals in an attempt to ensure similar situations do not occur.
Behind the scenes we have been trying to sort out how we are going to play the rest of our games, however, we have had little to no help from the council and their relevant teams. Any further support would be greatly appreciated!
On a final note, we would like to thank the everyone who helped and our opponents Grappenhall Sports for their patience.
