Two thirty minute games tonight for the Thunder.

Our first one was against one of our oldest rivals Deer Park of former Coton Green fame. With only Rowan away, trapped at the airport against his will.

Archie scored for the second week in a row from a corner as a Finley Winrow ball caused havoc in the box. The second followed half way through the game, as Finn's goal kick ran through to Finley, who cut inside a defender and slotted it home. Scoring was completed by Markiian, as Benji set him up from an Aodhan throw.

Game two was against another Deer Park side, moving up a year after an impressive season last year. A good, close game was had, with Finn having to make a few saves during the game. The only goal came after Aodhan was fouled, which left a 20 yard free kick for Cooper to bury into the net.

Carter and Joel both did well across the evening as strikers. Sammy, Leo and Oakley imperious in defence. Benji, after a great game last week, again played a calming role in midfield. Archie's on fire, Cooper dynamic. Finley's first touch on a difficult pitch was majestic. Markiian and Aodhan were both skillful on the ball, and Finn even used his hands! A good evening.

Game on Saturday at RMD at 10.30am, before Adders mascots beckons that afternoon.

Season five for the Thunder began this week with a midweek friendly against Market Bosworth. With only 10 available it was a test of fitness for the lads.

Playing at RMD adjacent to the curremt 4G building site, the Thunder had a great 1st half. Comparisons to Arsenal are sadly already building in the national press, as a perfect Carter Copson corner was met with a left foot volley by Archie to guide it home and a 1-0 lead.

Thunder created a number of chances, winning the ball repeatedly in the opposition half, and eventually it paid as a lovely Markiian through ball was drilled expertly across goal into the bottom left hand corner by the ever-excellent Finley Winrow. Both were superb all game. Oakley and Sammy were dominant in defence, giving the opposition very few chances, with Benji and Kyle anchoring the midfield expertly.

Goal three came after 25 mins, a Finley corner headed home from 10 yards by Sammy, and it was deserved as we continued to carve out chances, especially down the left as Cooper and Finley combined well repeatedly. More chances came and went, their keeper making a brilliant triple save to deny Markiian and Carter.

Half time came and went, with the wingers Archie and Cooper switching sides, and Sammy going upfront after Carter's brilliant display there in the 1st half.

The 2nd half was a lot closer, with Finn being deployed more frequently, required to be a sweeper keeper as a number of through balls were made. We still had a number of chances, with Cooper going close, Benji hitting the post with a brilliant strike, Sammy drawing a great save, Markiian too.

The Sonics responded with a wonder strike from distance half way through the 2nd half, and that ended the scoring.

A 3-1 win, a great effort and some brilliant interchanges.

Players of the match:

Parents award went to Markiian for his 110% effort in attack and defence. He was everywhere!

And I gave my award to Carter, whose display up front of holding the ball up, laying it off to others, creating chances and being a nuisance was great. Also, when in his usual defensive slot, he read the game brilliantly.

A recent Thunder trip to Brinklow, saw us play in our first tournament of the summer. An undefeated group stage, left the Thunder top of the group and into the semi finals. Goals were delivered by Finley and Cooper as the boys swept aside Brinklow, Rugby Borough and Kenilworth Sporting, alongside a draw against Coventry Phoenix.

Winning tournament groups has always been a strength for the Thunder, but we typically struggle in the semi finals. Facing the runners up from the other group, Sporting Rugby. The Thunder dominated, but failed to convert a host of chances. 0-0 at full time, we moved into 5 minutes of golden goal extra time. There was no golden goal. So penalties. They score, Winrow scores, Finn saves, Carter scores, they miss. FINAL time.

There we faced Brinklow (the other half of their team), where the lads played really well. One unlucky deflection led to a good strike from outside the box nestling in the bottom corner, and the we fell just short. Sammy and Finn took home player of the tournament awards, and look how happy the boys were getting their trophies.
