There are two days back-to-back that can give you a pretty hefty dose of perspective.
Su***de Prevention Day, followed by the 25th anniversary of 9/11.
One reminds us of lives tragically lost to su***de; the other of thousands of innocent lives taken in one of the most horrific events we’ve ever witnessed.
Heavy stuff.
But perhaps it also makes us look differently at the things that consume us day to day.
The worries. The setbacks. The things that make us despair, fear the worst or think, “Why me?”
I’ve had my own share of bad news these past few weeks that will shape the next few months of my life.
And then, just for good measure, my car decided to enter intensive care and is currently undergoing open-car surgery!
Did I feel like training yesterday?
Absolutely not.
But I showed up.
It wasn’t my best session by a long stretch, but I did something. And sometimes that’s enough.
I could have stayed home, felt sorry for myself, moaned about how unfair everything is and talked myself out of doing anything worthwhile.
But that’s not me.
I try to stay positive, resolute and, above all, grateful.
Grateful for my health. My family. My children laughing at the simplest things.
Because life isn’t always sunshine, holidays and Instagram-worthy moments.
That’s not real life.
Real life is messy.
So if you’re struggling, worried or feeling overwhelmed, please talk to someone. Don’t carry it around on your own.
And remember, simply waking up today means you have another opportunity to change things.
Keep showing up.
Your best is yet to come and I’d love to see you become your best.
