🔵🟡 WEEKEND JUNIOR FIXTURES 🟡🔵

It’s week two of the West Cumbria Youth League and all of our teams are in action at some point over the three days. It is also week one of the Penrith and District Junior Football League where our U10s are making their debut.

Added to this fixture poster all three of our U8 teams are playing in their first of the seasons banding festivals. Good luck to:

🔵🟡 OVER 35’s COUNTY CUP 🟡🔵

For the first time in our clubs history, our veteran (Over 35’s) have made it to the final of the Veterans County Cup.

This Friday we head to Penrith AFC to face a very good Harraby team who are no strangers to this fixture.

There is a bus leaving the Sun Inn for those who are wanting to travel to watch. £10 per person leaving at 17:15.

​This was the team's very first match of the season playing up an age group. Nerves led to a slow start, but they settled down, played the better football in the second half, and showed fantastic character to stage a huge comeback.

🔵🟡 UNDER 18S 🟡🔵

Our first ever U18 team made a winning start to the West Cumbria Youth League. They kicked off their campaign at home on Beacon Hill school field against newly established Seaton Juniors FC U18s.

The youngsters give themselves a well deserved 3-0 lead in the first half with goals from S. Starmer, C. Lockhart and a goal of the season contender from W. Glaister. Only for the visitors to capitalise on a defensive error to reduce the deficit before half time.

HT: 3-1

The second half started slow and Seaton were causing all sorts of problems. We weren’t able to deal with the long ball and directness. They scored to make it 3-2. Not long after they were awarded a stonewall penalty, no arguments. D. Harrison (MOM) made a superb save. We were awarded a free kick just inside the Seaton half. J. McRea floated a brilliant ball to the back post where the towering L. Shearing was able to nod back across goal to find an unmarked S. Starmer to pick up his second of the game. Not long after Seaton had another when they delivered a great corner into the box it was met with a powerful header at the back post. It was in the 82nd minute with the score poised at 4-3. Aspatria were awarded a penalty after S. Starmer was brought down in the box. Not to let sentiment get in the way for Starmer to chance a debut hat trick, dedicated penalty taker J.McRea stepped up and slotted home. Aspatria were able to see the game out comfortably after this.

FT: 5-3

Many thanks to all supporters who came to watch their first game. Big thanks to Mel and Janine from the Sun Inn who provided both teams with food after the game. Your hospitality was massively appreciated.

🔵🟡 NUFC MATCH DAY EXPERIENCE 🟡🔵

Today, a group of juniors headed over the North East to St James Park, to see Newcastle United v AFC Bournemouth as part of the Newcastle United Foundation Match Day Experience.

The group enjoyed an early breakfast in the Platinum Club, four goals shared by both teams, an awful refereeing display and then topped off by a top quality training session with Newcastle coaches.

We would like to say how well behaved all the kids were, representing the club impeccably.

Thanks to Robbie and all the NUFC staff for the hospitality.
