Set in the heart of the country on the South Yorkshire / Derbyshire border, approximately half way between Sheffield and Derby, Ogston Sailing Club offers racing and sail training on 180 acres of water in a beautiful location. For over 40 years the club has been training our members to sail and see them go on to success competing at events both Nationally and Internationally, as well as enjoying a

n exciting club race programme and social calendar. For people looking to join the club and learn to sail, we offer Royal Yachting Association (RYA) accredited Level 1 & 2 sail training courses for adults and children, and offer Powerboat courses up to instructor level. Once the sailing bug has got you it is not unknown for people to progress to teaching other new members in their turn, if you enjoy working with people and like to pass on skills and knowledge then the club also runs Dinghy Instructor courses to help you do this. Sailing is both a hobby and a sport, and whilst the rules of sailing can seem complex at first, the club is committed to help new members take up racing with a minimum of fuss and kerfuffle. Along side the Learn to Sail course we offer informal race training, a novice race series and help and support to ensure that your new hobby remains an enjoyable experience.

Interesting article and definitely reflected at Ogston. After covid there was a dip in double handed boats racing regularly. Once again there is a great mix of double and single handers. Notable is the rise of the Enterprise fleet, with several boats regularly racing, but also Albacores, 2000's, Comet Trio"s, Feva'a an RS 200 and a Scorpion. There are mixed crews of parent and child, partners, friends, experienced/novice racers, and full crews of those new to racing. πŸ˜€

Many will be aware of the famous Southport 24 hour race. A lot of work goes on behind the scenes beforehand (more later). But we found our trusty Enterprise was in need of repairs before the race in 2 weeks time. In step Glyn our commodore and of Peak Dinghies fame, and Russ. Repairs are underway, updates will follow. Many thanks to both.

Our brilliant Sailability team lead by Dave Driffill have been working hard to ensure that one of our club challengers is ready to make the journey to the World Sailing inclusion championships including the Para inclusion multihull World championships (challenger) in Portimao Portugal.

We are really proud as a club to be able to loan a boat from our fleet for this event. The boat is now looking at its best with some tlc from the team. If you would like to know more about this event here is a link... https://www.sailing.org/our-sport/para/wsic/

Some hardy souls in our Novice race today, this series is for those who are new to racing. Some have learnt to sail this year! Of course they are welcome in the main club series events too but sometimes its just nice to practice in a quieter session. Huge well done all! πŸ‘ŒπŸ˜€β›΅οΈ (phone courtesy of Sean Smith)

Fun and Free Friday... what wasn't happening!
Fridays are a social occasion on the water. Sailing, Paddleboarding, Windsurfing. On top of this we had a safety familiarisation course and our youth sailors has race training.

Youth Fleet Race Training was lead by Andy Gomm last night, with a great turnout of sailors. The focus was starts and where to start with different line bias. They did brilliantly. Thanks goes to Andy for leading the season. πŸ˜€

Erics famous BBQ to finish was a very welcome treat with a chat around the bar.

Ladies Night, lovely evening with paddling, windsurfing and SUP yoga. Few less on the water than usual with it being holiday season and initially a very windy forecast, but lots of fun had. Thank you to our volunteers today helping to cover safety, instruct windsurfing, lead SUP yoga and run the bar.
As always a bring and share meal to follow. 😊

Light winds today at Ogston but lots of people out to enjoy, racing, free sailing and Paddleboarding. Some of the youth enjoyed running around the mast between races, which did result in a splash at times, but impressive balancing! Great to see everyone enjoying the water in different ways πŸ˜€

What a wonderful afternoon sailing, pursuit racing today, 2 races back to back.
With the ever popular Woolley Moor Show taking place, we were treated to an amazing air show, just at the end of the first race a Hurricane flying around the reservoir and less that an hour later a fantastic acrobatic display, with 2 planes demonstrating incredible skills... an absolute treat to watch over our heads! (I can't guarantee full concentration was on the race at that time).
