Hirst Welfare Centre Hirst Welfare is a community space in the heart of Ashington. We have a Gym, café, sports facilities, early years and activity groups for all ages.

A friendly place to call in, take part, or just have a chat. Everyone welcome. We are a community sports and recreation facility based in the East end of Ashington, we deliver a full programme of activities that encompasses fitness, gym, football, youth work, nursery, cafe and rooms for hire. Our mission is to strengthen and support our whole community by providing enjoyable and high quality activities that make a real difference to peoples lives.

🥾 A HUGE WELL DONE TO KYLIE! 👏🎉

We want to give a massive shout-out to Kylie Parker, a member of the team here at Hirst Welfare Centre, who took on the Macmillan Mighty Hike on Saturday!

Kylie completed an incredible 26.2 miles, walking from Alnwick to Bamburgh along the beautiful Northumberland coastal path.

There’s still time to sponsor Kylie and support Macmillan Cancer Support.

Our Community Café has been busy this morning!
Thanks to the generous donations we’ve recently received, our Catering Manager has been making fantastic use of all the fresh produce including the vegetables kindly gifted by the Garden Vegetable Society after their Annual Exhibition.

Today’s Specials:
🥣 Vegetable & Lentil Soup with a Roll – £2.00
A hearty, wholesome soup made using donated veg, perfect for a cosy autumn day.

A huge thank you to the Garden Vegetable Society!
They kindly donated a selection of fresh produce from their Annual Exhibition at the weekend, and we are extremely grateful for their generosity.

All of this beautiful veg will be put to good use in our Community Café, helping us serve wholesome, affordable meals for local residents.

Keep an eye out this week, our team will be creating some tasty specials using these ingredients. You won’t want to miss what’s on the menu!

💻 Community Administration Officer

Hirst Welfare Centre is looking for a friendly, organised and community-minded person to join our small and welcoming team.

This is a varied role supporting the day-to-day running of the Centre and will include:

📅 Overseeing our room booking and facility system
📧 Responding to enquiries from customers and community groups
📋 Providing general administrative support
💷 Supporting routine financial administration
💻 Helping staff and volunteers with digital systems
🎉 Supporting community activities and events
🤝 Helping us maintain a welcoming and inclusive Centre

We're looking for someone who is approachable, reliable, organised and enjoys working with people. Previous administration or customer service experience would be helpful, but we're particularly interested in finding someone with the right attitude and commitment to our community.

📍 Location: Hirst Welfare Centre, Ashington
⏰ Hours: 20 hours per week
💷 Salary: £12.71 per hour / £13,218.40 per year
📊 FTE: £24,454.04 based on 37 hours per week
📅 Closing date: Friday 29th August 2026
