From 12-minute miles to a 1:02 Blaydon Race finish 🏃♀️
On Monday Toni Laverick completed the Blaydon Race in 1:02:17.
When Toni started back in April, she was running close to 12-minute miles. On race day she averaged 10:31-minute miles across the whole race.
Not bad for someone who says she’s “not a natural runner”.
Alongside her running, Toni has been working through the Athena programme, fitting training around work, kids and all the usual chaos of everyday life.
A few weeks ago she told me:
💬 “The strength work and sled work helped my running capacity and made me feel stronger.”
And that’s exactly the point.
Strength training isn’t just about getting stronger in the gym. It’s about being stronger for the things you want to do outside of it too.
From no regular exercise for 2 years to completing the Blaydon Race in just 8 weeks.
A brilliant result and one Toni should be incredibly proud of. 👏
