To settle any rumours, no the club is not folding! I'm still here as manager and will be for quite a while yet.

Roll up your sleeves, wipe the mud off of your face and go again next week!

Batchelors SSC 7 Kingsnorth Pilgrims 3

Batchelors completed their pre season schedule with an emphatic 7-3 victory over Kingsnorth Pilgrims on Sunday. First half goals from Ben Williams and Richard Amos saw the works side take a comfortable 2-0 lead in at the break before it went goal crazy in the second half with no less than 8 further strikes hitting the net at both ends.

Another Amos goal followed by James Macey's strike put Batchelors 4-0 up, but a fantastic Jimmy Jones free-kick saw Pilgrims pull a goal back. The visitors added a second soon after but goals from Will Mawston and skipper James Bartholomew restored their four goal advantage.

Mike Halpin smashed home number seven from the edge of the penalty area, his first ever goal for the club in 5 years, before Pilgrims grabbed a late consolation from the penalty spot.

Great to see Josh return from injury, and young Ryan Carroll impressed in the second half. Always good to score some goals too but having a game where we enjoyed the majority of the possession will build confidence ahead of the trip to Cheriton in two weeks time.

Jones, Fuller (Carroll), Halpin, L Macey, Pyke (J Macey), Williams (Mawston), Osbourne (Mackman), Bartholomew, Fasoli, Thompson (Balog), Amos.

Iden Park 5 Batchelors SSC 2

The result might not have have been what we wanted but the performance and effort shown by the players definitely was as the Batchelor boys went down 5-2 to a very well organised Iden Park.

With several players missing including skipper James Bartholomew and last season's Player of the Year Mike Halpin, joint-managers Colin Macey and Ryan Mills were forced to shuffle the pack which allowed the 12 man squad to rack up some valuable minutes ahead of the season opener at Cheriton in three weeks time.

Richard Amos and Luca Fasoli were handed their first starts of the summer and both linked up well when going forward, but it was the electric Frank Thompson who opened the scoring when he lobbed the home goalkeeper after just 7 minutes.

Batchelors defended well with Conner Freund and Luke Macey at the heart of the back four, while JJ Pyke dealt with the threat of Iden's Andy Crouch brilliantly. Iden enjoyed the greater of the possession and played some lovely football at times, although midfielder Aaron Osborne was on hand to break up the play on several occasions putting in a man of the match performance in the centre of the park.

Iden grabbed an equaliser after 30 minutes when a break away down the right saw the ball cut back to Lee in midfield who slotted home, and the hosts scored again shortly after to make it 2-1 through the lively Crouch.

Luca Fasoli was a constant threat down the right for Batchelors and he provided the goal that saw the works side go in at the break level at 2-2 when Will Mawston bravely converted his cross to score taking a knock for his efforts in the process.

The second half started well with both Brad Freund and Mawston going close, while Osbourne had two long range efforts saved and Steve Fuller popped up only to put his effort wide.

Confusion at the back saw Iden go 3-2 ahead after 56 minutes and the goal saw Iden take a real grip of the game. Freund and Ben Williams battled well against the home sides midfield while Amos did well with the limited service up top.

The hosts dominated the possession for long spells and took advantage of some tired legs as the half wore on, goalkeeper Charlie Jones making three or four fantastic saves to keep his side in the game.

But as Batchelors committed players forward looking for a third goal themselves, Iden took advantage adding two late goals to seal a well deserved 5-2 victory.

Well played boys!

Pleased with the effort and performance this morning, big improvement from the last game and a decent result against a well organised Fox side.

Lots of highlights from the game for me personally, and also learnt a few things about several players, who can and can't play certain positions.

Very pleased with young Luca's debut, he brings lots of energy to the side and capped it off with a brilliant individual goal late on. Barthy led by example with a fantastic shift while I thought Nathan was outstanding playing both at right and left back.

Good to see Brad get on the score sheet too while everyone coped with the heat and dry pitch very well.

As I said before the game, I want to give every squad member a chance to stake a claim for a place in the team. The line ups are still very much experimental at the moment but next week myself and Colin will look to name a strong starting XI and perhaps play at least 45-55 minutes without making too many changes.

Well done everyone!
