Kent Women's 2nd Team match report ๐

Our last match of the season saw us hosting Middlesex at Chislehurst GC. A win would see us into 3rd place, tied with Surrey match points, but with Surrey being 12 games ahead and only 9 games to play, third is the best we could achieve.
A nervy start in the morning foursomes saw us going into the afternoon 2-1 down, with our only point from Annabel Dalton (Knole Park) and Nicola Elgie (Langley Park) with a 6&5 win.
Onto the afternoon singles, we needed a strong start to make it over the line. The first two matches were won by Ellen Wilson (Cherry Lodge) and Annabel Dalton (Knole park) with scores of 6&4 and 7&6 respectively. Philippa North (Sundridge Park) added another point with a 4&3 win, but with our two final matches both losing to Middlesex, it was down to season rookie Nicola Elgie (Langley Park) to secure the win.
Standing all square on 17, Nicola hit a beautiful shot onto the tricky 17th, making par and stood on 18, 1 up. She held her nerve, hitting green in regulation & with both players making par, won her match 1 up to seal a narrow victory for Kent 5-4.
Thank you to Ingrid Long, county president, for her support at both the home matches and also to Gill McMillan, past 2nd team manager. Also to Chislehurst GC & Chris for being excellent hosts.
I am very much looking forward to next season and building the squad of women to hopefully lift the Stovold Trophy next year!
