What a day!!!

An unbelievably proud day in London on Sunday cheering the thousands taking part in the marathon.

It’s been an absolute pleasure coaching Amelia, Jimmy, and Paul. All have had their own journeys to get to the start line, few ups and downs but they all smashed it and should be very proud. I certainly am.

This was Amelia’s first marathon, apart from completing the virtual London Marathon through Covid. Her ultimate goal was sub 4 hours but with proper structured training, beating her time of 4:28 would still be fab. Official finish time – 3:56 💥

Paul’s been on an incredible journey all year. 20 weeks ago the goal was to simply finish. Then came a wave of PB’s in almost all races he took part in. We then discussed 4:30. Official finish time – 4:13 💥

Jimmy came to me quite late on as wanted some structure to get him to the start line. Things were going good until a quad issue set him back a few weeks. His determination has been unreal and running for his chosen charity (Lupus UK) he got home under 5 hours with 4:57. That’s incredible to say he couldn’t bend his leg a few weeks ago 💥

So proud of them along with the rest of Ivanhoe Runners who took part.

Have you ever considered working with a running coach but decide against it because of one of the following:

- Coaches are just for fast runners or runners that want to get faster.
- I’m not “good enough” to have a coach.
- I don’t see myself as a runner.

If you take anything from this post, then believe me when I say this is 100% not the case. No matter your pace, you’re a runner and you should be proud of that.

A coach can help you with any goal you have whether that be completing a specific race distance, improving your technique, getting started or returning from injury, or simply motivation and accountability.

I have 5 places available to join our team for just £50 per month (£12.50 per week) for 6 months.

What you will receive as part of this:

✅ Initial chat and consultation – Probably the most important part of the process. I’ll get to know you. Learn about your running history and current running volume. What are your goals and aspirations, short and long term. Any injuries I need to be aware of. How many days a week can you commit to training. All key information that sets us up.

✅ Structured training – What makes a coach stand out from a generic training plan that you can download from the internet is that your running will be built around you and your goals. Training will fit around you not vice versa. It will include a variety of different paces and sessions to keep you motivated and give you the feel good factor when you can tick those workouts off your plan. The accountability alone is a huge benefit. I’ll also progress and reduce training at the right time to avoid potential injury and burnout risks.

✅ Regular check In’s – A coach isn’t just there to plan your training. They are there to motivate and encourage you. Be there for you when certain sessions or races don’t go to plan, training is tough going at times. The relationship I build with my runners is the most important thing to me.

✅ Unlock hidden potential – A coach can install confidence which then unlocks potential. I often here “I never thought I could run that far” or “I would have never pushed like that on my own”. It’s amazing what you can achieve with a little push outside of that comfort zones. I’ll help with that.

All this and much more 👍

Interested? Drop me a message on here or one the alternative contacts. You can call me on 07841 714382 if you’d prefer to chat.

Know anyone who might be interested, please feel free to share as much as you like.

Quick reminder that we’ll be back at the bath grounds on Tuesday evening for another fun packed session. Be great to see you there 😊

Remember these sessions are suited for all runners. I’ve had a few people say “but I’m not fast enough” or “I’m not fit enough”. Trust me that is not the case, I always structure the session to suit all abilities and everyone is welcome.

Add something different to your running, improve your fitness, and run with others. What’s not to like.

You can contact me via the details shown above, alternatively just pop down.

Hopefully see you there,

Louis

Well you couldn’t write it could you. No rain for what seems like months then the heavens open hours before our first session. Just an update to say the session WILL go ahead as planned.

Just 1 day to go until our first session!!!

Quick reminder of some useful information ahead of tomorrow. The session will start promptly at 7pm but as it’s the first time meeting some of you, I’ve suggested meeting slightly earlier just so we can have a bit of a chat and you can ask me any questions.

Don’t worry if you can’t make it any earlier than 7pm, you will not miss anything.

I know the weather has cooled quite considerably since the weekend but please remember to bring a drink with you as will still be quite humid.

I will also be keeping my eye on the weather as rain is forecast. Hopefully the bath grounds won’t be two wet but don’t worry I have contingency plans and will keep you all up to date.

Any questions in the meantime just ask and look forward to meeting everyone.

Calling all runners around Ashby!!!!!

On Tuesday evening I’ll be starting my weekly coach led sessions. Suitable for runners of all abilities, whether you’re a sub 3hour marathon runner or just completed your first couch to 5k, you’re all welcome to join. You’ll be pleased to know the weather looks much cooler as well.

These sessions will benefit those who are chasing PB’s in particular events, those who have recently lost their running mojo and are looking to get it back, and those who simply want a bit of variety in their running rather than running the same route at the same pace every time. Most importantly, we’ll make it fun, enjoyable and we’ll work as a team.

We’ll meet by the monument near the entrance at the bottom of south street just before 7pm. From there we’ll go through a proper warm up before starting the main session. Once we’ve cooled down correctly, the sessions will last approximately 1 hour.

By all means feel free to come down on the night. To give me a rough idea on numbers, you can either drop me a message on any of the contacts on the post.

Follow me on my social media channels for more information and please like, share, and spread the word as much as possible so those who may be interested can get involved.

Any questions just give me a shout. Look forward to seeing you.

*Hit the hills and see the benefits pay off*

Great session last night with . Hill circuit with varied intensity, gradient, and distance over a range of climbs, including a summit attack at the end.

3 x 2 mins
3 x 1 mins
3 x 30 secs

Runners often shudder at the thought of hill training but for me they’re the best workout out there.

It’s not how fast you get up there, you can mix your pace as much as you want. This was what this session was all about, ticking all the boxes, long, medium and short repetitions.

Hills develop strength, power, your aerobic system, and your running form. Basically, adding hills to your training will improve you as a runner. They are tough so I’d always recommend no more than one session a week.

For the summit attack at the end the group had three routes to the top to choose from. They all chose the steepest line, straight through the middle. A cracking view and haribos was their reward. What a team 💪👍👏

Fancy having a go, book on to my weekly sessions starting in august 👍

Do you want to take your running to the next level?

Do you want to knock a few seconds off your PB?

Do you want to add a bit of variety and fun to your running?

We all like our comfort zones, hence the name. And although there’s nothing wrong with staying in that zone, it can be quite easy to get in a rut and lose our running mojo. Those that like to chase PB’s may notice their running plateaus if they continue to stick to the same runs every time.

Adding intervals or faster running to your weekly schedule is tough to do on your own, why? Because it’s hard work I’m not going to lie. Running with others in a group environment paints a completely different picture. You are more motivated, you work together as a team, you encourage each other, and you feel great afterwards. These are those quick wins and short term benefits.

In the long run, your mojo will return, just from the added variety and running with others. For the PB hunters, your performance will start to rise again with the added regular intensity.

Starting from Tuesday 16th August, I will be leading weekly sessions for runners of all abilities. We’ll go through a thorough warm up, including some fun drills, followed by the main session, then an easy cool down. We may even have time for a drink and a chat after 😊.

Details…..

Time – 7pm for approximately an hour.

Date – Weekly from Tuesday 19th July.

Venue – TBC (will always be local but dependent on session e.g. bath grounds, hicks lodge etc)

Cost - £5 per hour.

To book your place, please drop me a message on any of the contact details down. Alternatively, just turn up, that’s absolutely fine.

Follow me on my social media channels for reminders on updates and venues etc.

These sessions are all about you, regardless of your experience and ability. Look forward to meeting you all.
