ABZ Racing

ABZ Racing Amateur Race team that will be competing at Darley Moor in the Steel Frame 600 and Pre Injection 600 championships on a '97 CBR600F3

Hi guys, after having a long long time mulling it all over, I've come to the decision that I won't be racing at all this year at all, and won't be contemplating it for a while. Struggling to find the time to sort everything and finance the whole thing, so because I can't give it 100% I feel it's best to leave it all for now.

Apologies if this disappoints anyone, I may plan on racing again in the future, but it won't be for a while.

Really hard to be writing this, but it's what's best for me at the minute.

Appreciate all the support that has been given and the interest in the racing effort, and I will hopefully be racing again at some point in the future.

All the best

As promised, I have some news and an update.

ABZ Racing WILL be back at the track full time next season!

After deciding not to push to race this season, as it would have left me financially unstable, a change in jobs has meant I am now able to fund the racing and will be resuming the bike rebuild ASAP.

As always I really appreciate the help and support everyone has given already, and would greatly appreciate any further help and support for next season.

Plans will be revealed closer to the time after I've sorted some things out, so watch this space.

Looking forward to it. Let's get racing again!

Right then guys time for an update:

Since I last posted I've been gradually stripping the bike down and making changes/improvements after certain things being highlighted during last season.

Everything that needs to come off the bike is now off! Currently going through cleaning, re-greasing or replacing bearings, then just need to put it all back together, fit the new dash and do the engine oil and plugs, then mechanically she will be ready to go!

Following that I will be repairing/improving the general condition of the fairings, so not much left to do now then it's trackday time 😎

Will keep you updated and will hopefully be out on track soon!

Right then, I've been quiet all winter and not really given any updates, but ahead of the first round of the season at Darley this coming weekend, I would like to let you all know I will not be racing. This is mainly due to wanting to focus on track days/ test days to get more bike time and learn different tracks (stepping stone for future plans) and also because I simply can't afford it right now.

Not having sponsors and having to do it off your own back like many of the riders in any club paddock is hard work, and sometimes you have to make that decision not to go racing, even though it's a very hard decision to make.

But I aim to get a round or two in later in the year when I'm a bit more financially stable, but I now have a warm place to work on the bike and I'm going to treat it to a proper strip down and refresh.

Want to thank you all again for the support last year and I will keep you posted on any plan changes/progress throughout the year.

Cheers guys

Seen as the end of 2017 is drawing ever closer, I've put together a few pictures to show how far the bike, and myself, have come since this time last year. For saying I'd never swung my leg over a 600 before this year and barely had any riding experience other than a year on a ped and on a 125 on the road, it's been a cracking year. Finished my first ever season with points in both the pre injection and steel framed 600 championships, and knocked my Laptimes down from that first ever timed lap of 1:51 to the low teens. Couldn't have done it without me dad, helping with the bike and being on the spanners each round, or without the help and support from my family and friends, or the help and advice from other riders. Most of all a big thanks my wonderful partner Hiraani for putting up with it all and not getting (too) sick of hearing about bikes and bike racing haha.

2017 has been great, roll on to 2018 and see what the new year brings.

What a season Nathaniel has had. For saying he had no riding experience let alone race experience, he has progressed so much. Huge thanks to everyone who has given help and advice along the way and to everyone who has come along to support him on his journey this year. Time to enjoy the off season a bit before starting on bike prep for next year.

So that's that! Final round at darley for the year finished! Had a good weekend with testing Saturday and racing today, struggled with the cold that everyone seems to have at the minute, but rode on and got through the test day and through both races today. No PB at this round so it still stands at 1:15, but that is a damn sight faster than the first timed lap round darley on the bike at the start of the year (faster by over half a minute haha) so to me that is a job well done and I'm happy with my progress this year. Next year will be a bit different so watch this space. Massive thankyou to everyone involved, all the support I've had this year has been amazing. I've had this dream to go racing ever since I watched Carl Foggarty's hell for leather back on video all them years ago (I know I'm still relatively young but this must have been a good 18 years ago lol) and this year with a lot of hard work and organisation and support, I've lived that dream. Can't thank everyone involved enough, onwards and upwards to what comes next!

Right then guys and girls, I'm looking for sponsorship for next season. As you can see there is a lot of room on the bike for company names or individuals (probably more with the new fairings the bike will get over winter) that will be there for all to see, and not just at darley moor as I'm planning to race elsewhere as well, so I can advance my license and lose the orange vest. If you could please share this post and ask around, if anyone is interested we can discuss what you would like in return for you name on the bike and a contribution to tyres and fuel etc next year. Any help is greatly appreciated, please contact me or my dad if you have any queries. Thanks again for all the help and support, time to prep for stars in 3 weeks now!

Well what can I say, what a weekend of racing again! After spending the last 2 months prepping the bike and making little changes and improvements, we went to darley this weekend expecting it to just be a test on the bike and give the new engine a shakedown as I've had 2 months without bike time. Went out in qualifying and started to build my confidence again after going into the tyres at Townley's in round 4, recording a 1:17 lap. Only a second slower than my best recorded race lap from last time I raced. Set out in the first steely race expecting another shakedown of the bike but managed to set a new PB of 1:15.4! Building more confidence again I got the bike home and we got ready for the first pre injection race. Set out in what would be a race against myself, I still managed to set a 1.15.7 with no one to chase! During the break between that race and the next steely race, wets were put in as the rain started and stopped and started, with race direction calling the rest of the day as wet races. Went out in the first steely race after dinner and posted a slower time than before due to lack of confidence on the wets as I'd only used them once before, and a vibration starting to develop under braking. Got the bike home and then ready for the second pre injection race. We left the wets in, as it looked like it would rain and we weren't wrong. After the first running of the pre injection race, a high side at the front esses red flagged the race so we were sat on the grid while they made sure the rider was ok and the track clear of debris, and during this time the rain started. Everyone else on the grid was on their normal race tyres, I was the only one on wets and it paid off, as with people pulling off the track for safety because of their lack in grip, I managed to bring the bike home in 5th place! Best finish of the season and points on the board, something I definitely wasn't expecting this season at all. Then in the newcomers the vibration from the front end became quite bad, but I managed to finish that race and bring the bike back in one piece. Massive thanks to everyone for the help and support, onwards and upwards to stars and hopefully more great results!
