When your WALX Master takes a personal holiday and meets up with these two lovely new WALX Masters setting up their own business in Lanzarote who have just taken part in a Wine Run challenge. Next year anyone?

🍇🌋 We Did It! 🌋🍇

We completed the Lanzarote Wine Run today!

We walked over 8 miles (around 12km) through the stunning La Geria wine region in temperatures reaching 31°C in the shade. Parts of the route were tough, especially walking over the soft picón, which felt like trekking through sand at times!

There were pit stops along the way where people could enjoy a glass of wine, but we didn’t have a glass of wine until we crossed the finish line. We took a couple of breaks to empty the picón out of our boots; we even met up with Sam, our awesome WALX teacher, who is over here with her daughter and friend.

What a lovely morning and such a great achievement. Memories made, legs aching, and definitely a well-earned glass of wine at the end! 🍷❤️🥾

Assynt Highlands Adventure 2026

One of the things we love most at WALX Derwent & Dales is creating opportunities for people to explore new landscapes, challenge themselves, learn new skills and share memorable adventures with like-minded people.

Throughout the year we deliver a variety of UK and overseas walking adventures, from mountain weekends and skills courses to multi-day hiking holidays in some of Britain's most spectacular regions. Recent trips have included the Lake District, Snowdonia, the Elan Valley, the Algarve and, of course, the magnificent Assynt Highlands.

Our adventure calendar continues later this year with a week exploring the stunning landscapes surrounding Lake Garda, Italy, where mountains meet lakeside villages, spectacular viewpoints and classic Italian hospitality.

Introducing Monica from Eat Sleep Wild, who has joined and supported us on our Scottish adventure to Lochinver – and what an adventure it has been! With just one more day to go before we reluctantly say goodbye, she’s become part of the team and embraced everything Assynt has thrown at us.

Together we’ve climbed Quinag, Suilven, Breabag via the Bone Caves, Stac Pollaidh and visited the Knockan Crag Nature Reserve. We’ve explored the stunning Clachtoll coastline, and discovered some of Scotland’s most ancient landscapes.

We’ve experienced sunshine, wind, rain, and cloud; crossed bogs, rocky ridges, and mountain plateaus; shared laughter, stories, and more than a few well-earned brews. There have been memorable summit celebrations, lunches tucked away in emergency shelters, and countless moments of awe as we’ve looked out across Assynt’s extraordinary mountains, lochs, and coastline.

Thank you, Monica, for being such great company, embracing every challenge with a smile, and sharing this special corner of Scotland with us. Here’s to one final day of adventure before we head home with tired legs, full hearts, and memories that will last a lifetime.

It’s Monday again in Kedleston Park and this group led by Helen and supported by John is always so popular.

Do you wonder why?? It’s because it’s a WALX and TALX group followed by coffee and cake! Always a winner, always welcoming.

Some of our members have been coming for over 15 years! Now that is a lot of walking and talking! The social aspect of these walks is as important as the exercise itself, so what is stopping YOU.

What a way to spend your 70th birthday.

A huge well done to Anne to pushing her own boundaries since she started 4 1/2 years ago having never done anything like this before. We remember her first mountain climb and how terrified she was! Congratulations to all the group, Steve, Dan and Karin who achieved this climb up Suilevn as it was a very long day!

The walk in was 5 miles, then the steep climb up to the bealach before heading up to the summit. Sadly the summit was in clouds but the rest of the day gave us wonderful views of this remote and vast part of Scotland.

A celebration with some vintage Champagne and Sam’s Sloe Gin at the summit before the descent and long walk back to the car!

We had the famous Lochinver Pies for our supper which were absolutely perfect and cake (of course!)

🇵🇹 The Hidden Paths of Portugal

Golden cliffs, wild coastal trails, mountain summits, whitewashed villages, endless sea views and plenty of laughter along the way.

From Odeceixe to Zambujeira do Mar, Aljezur, and high into the peaceful mountains above Monchique, this adventure had everything We explored the quieter side of the Algarve, walking through landscapes filled with wildflowers, ancient settlements, soaring storks and breathtaking ocean panoramas, hidden history, Every day brought something different… and somehow the views just kept getting better. Wonderful accommodation, incredible food and fabulous company.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us on this special journey and a special thank you to Tracks and Trails for creating such a wonderful itinerary and experience.

Hidden Paths of Portugal 🇵🇹with Tracks and Trails

Going into our 17th year of creating bespoke adventures together for our members, this year we chose Portugal and what a choice it’s been.

From dramatic cliff-top trails and wild Atlantic beaches to whitewashed villages and mountain scenery, this spring break has taken us through the stunning Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Nature Parks one of the finest preserved stretches of coastline in Europe.

Across three days walking we explore not only the breathtaking coastline, but also the beautiful towns of Odeceixe, Monchique and Aljezur, along with the mountains of the north-west Algarve.

A journey filled with hidden paths, local history, incredible food, laughter and unforgettable scenery.
