ASCOT LOCOMOTIVE SOCIETY Children’s Party Diary
We are opening our diary from today for our successful children’s parties at the miniature railway. Last year we had to disappoint a couple of families as their requested dates were already taken – so it’s good to book early! Some miniature railways do not host parties, and with others, you are restricted to sharing your private event in conjunction with their public running days.
At Ascot on party day, you and your guests have the entire railway and site to yourselves and the full use of the clubhouse / station house facilities. Effectively, you have the private use of the railway for half a day. This allows for your set up time an hour before the event and the trains will then run for a full two hours with a short break in the middle. This also then allows for clear up time at the end with our assistance.
We cater for up to twenty children plus their accompanying parents / guardians. We guarantee a memorable day. ASCOT LOCOMOTIVE SOCIETY
** An explanation and – sorry! **
So many of you who visited on Sunday said, “It was sunny when we left home!” Indeed, we based our running day on the noon forecast that said - - it would be chilly, windy, the sun would peep through the clouds and a possibility of a light shower around 4pm. Well, obviously mother nature had significantly different ideas and produced a rain deluge and thunder instead. With the questionable weather forecast, we didn’t think that many visitors would arrive and – hands up, we were caught out and rather overwhelmed, and we’re sorry for that.
We can’t run trains in heavy rain due to wheel slippage and traction issues, as it could easily damage the wheels, motor and batteries of the trains as well as being a poor ride for passengers, so I think people understood that we did the best we possibly could in the conditions and circumstances.
Most visitors didn’t seem to care anyway and the true English spirit prevailed and we still saw lots of smiles and they had tea and cake instead! So many said they’d be back again and loved the place and we’re very grateful for that. Hopefully the weather will be more ‘stable’ on 3rd May.
If you come again in May and honestly feel you didn’t get full value on Sunday, let us know and I’m sure we’ll work something out for you.

The racecourse have found a wallet around our area early in the week. I'll only give initials, it belongs to a PR.
It is in safe keeping with the authority in the Ascot yard across from the railway site. Would need to be collected from them - with identity confirmation.

Just to say that seeing as our first running day of the year falls on Easter Sunday and we have members away or committed to family, we will, for this ONE occasion only, be running instead on the SECOND Sunday of the month SUNDAY 12th APRIL Running 2-5 pm Weather permitting
Let’s hope it warms up soon!

ASCOT LOCOMOTIVE SOCIETY An appeal
This year we celebrate the society’s 50th anniversary and we hope to do it in style. Last year we saw record numbers attend, and received numerous glowing feedback comments. Our miniature railway is now in the middle of a 5-year plan to restore and greatly improve our site and its facilities to make it a significant and inexpensive community attraction for local families.
However … Several stoical senior members who have been the bedrock of the society, almost from the very beginning, are now in their golden years and are simply unable to attend and help any longer.
So … we just need some new helping hands to join our friendly team to help us carry on and reach our goal. We ask for no major commitment, but to give up a few hours on some of the Sundays when we run for the public or when we give our successful children’s parties. No experience is necessary.
The ‘roles’ are simple like: taking fares, giving tickets, helping in the refreshment room, assisting on the platform etc, and training and full support is given. You never know, you might eventually end up driving a train!
We offer free train rides and refreshments for members and their immediate families and a warm welcome from a dedicated, hard-working, team.
We would also welcome people who like a little DIY. So, if you’re handy with a paint brush, drill or saw, it may well suit a retiree or someone with a little spare time during the week. We have very attractive rural grounds and would also appreciate help and ideas for the gardening projects we propose to undertake.
