A little Friday afternoon share. Really simple 1-2-1 warm up drill. So many variations you can implement and the ability to progress the difficulty and skills as you go. Guarantees touches and movement to prepare the player for those next drills with increased complexity and intensity.

Ascot U16’s talent Ailsa has been training with me for a while now, although due to a couple of minor injuries we struggled to get a flow with the sessions earlier on. Now back to her full fitness and confidence growing we have engaged in a new block of sessions and the progress has been insane. The commitment and desire to get each detail right is really paying off.

Great session this morning with Hannah and Laura in the sun ... here’s a look at just one of the variations we worked on in today’s passing drill.
Incorporating 1 and 2 touch, the purpose of the first touch, fast movements, turning out, setting back, reactions and awareness.
Not to mention this was what they both achieved AFTER an hour of high intensity work in the sun 👏👏

Despite an injury sustained in the second to last game of the season Lucky is still looking sharp and I’ve no doubt will make a great comeback in July 👊🟡🔵

“It never gets easier, you just get better”

Last night was Hannah’s 4th session back with me after nearly a year out to a serious injury ... our goal for now is to make sure she’s confident and in the best possible shape to return to team training with in July.
The quote above is something I like to remind players I work with, especially those looking to make a “comeback”. I can see Hannah making improvements even just in the 60 minutes she’s with me so I’ve no doubt she’ll be flying again in the next couple months...BUT... as she gets fitter and faster the intensity of the sessions naturally increases, in high intensity sessions you’ll always push yourself and feel those fatiguing effects, what does feel much better however, is the amount of control you have over the ball even in those states. So no the sessions will never get easier in terms of your physical output, but your success rate and technical ability will ! So don’t focus on the pain but instead focus on the success rate

First session back last night 🟡🔵⚽️

32 players 🤯 everyone still looking sharp in the SSGs and loads of positives to take, however...

It’s ok if your sessions this week don’t go to plan.
It’s ok if you feel overwhelmed, if the banter, team energy, or atmosphere isn’t the same right now.
It’s ok if you’re not as sharp as you felt a few months back, maybe a few touches, passes or shots went astray.

The most important thing we can all do right now is show up and try our best to enjoy our football again ... maybe some of your team mates seem a bit quiet, a bit distant, or less confident on the ball ... just keep supporting each other, keep building each other up, and stay positive!

As you can probably tell these sessions are always full of laughter but when these two get their heads down and their competitiveness comes through their quality and attention to detail is second to none... the developments they’ve made over these sessions have been phenomenal and I’m excited to see it put to action not just at training but also in the coming matches.

This drill is all about that first touch ... making sure it’s positive, controlled, and most of all has a purpose, what do you want your first touch to do and why ???!!

Additionally, this drill allowed Darcey to continue practicing the reverse pass, a technique which was quite uncomfortable a few months back is now completely natural to Darcey 👏
