Cyprus Marathon 🇨🇾- 8/3/26 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was my second marathon of the year for me & literally a flying visit, as I just went for the weekend, yes I am crazy after all. The marathon was sponsored by TUI & they put on a good race, very well organised. You start at Aphrodites birthplace & the coaches pick you up from kato main bus station in Paphos. It is an early start as the last coach sets off at 5:50. Once you arrive at the start you get to soak in the beautiful sunrise & have time for photo opportunities, while the start line is being prepared. Head down to the beach & get some great pics of aphrodites rock & the sunrise. The start time was bang on the dot at 7am & the first few kilometres you have the sea to the left of you. Most of the route is on country roads, with a few slight inclines. It is a relatively flat course & mostly on open roads, but vehicles were being cautious. I would recommend to be cautious yourself & be aware of vehicles. There were plenty of water stations with lovely cold water & the volunteers were fantastic, very friendly & most of them was British. I was on my own for a lot of the race, but I quite like that personally. You don’t have much crowd support out there & also not very much entertainment along the course, more towards the end. There was one photographer who was fantastic, he just kept clicking away, got up close to you & even took pictures of your shoes. You finally finish outside Paphos castle, make sure to get your free beer, you have earned it. Also it was International Women’s Day so every woman that crossed the finish line received a rose. The medal also has Aphrodite (Greek goddess of love) on the back, I’m not sure if this was intentional but it’s a nice touch.
