Happy Monday Folks! We hope you all had a great weekend.

Just a reminder that the boring basics still win. 💪

Everyone is looking for the secret workout, the perfect diet, or the latest fitness trend.

But real results usually come from the things that don’t get many likes:

☀️ Getting outside in the morning
🥗 Eating mostly whole foods
😴 Prioritising sleep
🚶 Moving your body every day
🏋️ Strength training consistently
🍗 Getting enough protein
🛌 Taking rest days when needed

It’s not flashy. It’s not exciting.
But it’s effective.

The strongest, healthiest people aren’t chasing shortcuts - they’re mastering the fundamentals, week after week.

At Fitness Works Armagh, we believe lasting results are built on consistency, not complexity.

The basics work. The challenge is sticking with them.

Anyone else in the mood for soup already… or is it just me?! 😂🥣

HIGH-PROTEIN BUTTERNUT SQUASH SOUP 🎃

This one is creamy, comforting, packed with flavour AND high in protein - perfect for those days when you want something warm and filling without loads of calories 🙌

Split into 3-5 servings. If you make 4 generous bowls, each serving comes in at roughly:

💪 19g protein
🔥 200 calories

The secret? Instead of cream, this recipe uses cottage cheese to get that creamy texture while adding extra protein. Plus, bone broth gives it another protein boost!

HOW TO MAKE IT 👇

1️⃣ Preheat your oven to 210°C.

2️⃣ Cut 1 large butternut squash (or 2 honey nut squash) in half, scoop out the seeds and lightly score the flesh. Place on a large baking tray.

3️⃣ Add 1 large red onion, cut into eighths.

4️⃣ Cut 12 mini red peppers (or 2 red bell peppers) in half, remove the seeds and add to the tray.

5️⃣ Drizzle/spray with 1 tbsp oil, then season with:
• 1 tbsp onion powder
• 1 tbsp thyme
• 1 tbsp smoked paprika

6️⃣ Slice the top off 1 whole garlic bulb, drizzle with 1 tbsp olive oil, wrap in foil or parchment and add to the tray. Roast everything for 50–60 minutes until golden and tender.

7️⃣ Scoop the roasted squash from its skin and add to a blender with the onion, peppers and squeezed-out roasted garlic.

8️⃣ Add 500ml bone broth (chicken, veggie or beef) + 3.5 servings of cottage cheese (around ¾ of a tub).

9️⃣ Blend until silky smooth, taste and adjust the seasoning — then serve! 😍

Perfect for meal prep too. Portion it out, pop it in the fridge and reheat when you need a quick lunch or dinner.

Finish with your favourite toppings - seeds, fresh herbs, chilli flakes or a little parmesan 🤌

Save this one for soup season! 🍂🎃

🔥 ANTI-INFLAMMATORY FOODS 🥑🥦

What we eat can play an important role in supporting the body’s inflammatory response. While inflammation is a normal part of the immune system, long-term inflammation can contribute to a range of health problems.

For people living with autoimmune diseases, nutrition can be particularly important. An anti-inflammatory diet won’t cure an autoimmune condition or replace medical treatment, but a balanced, nutrient-rich diet may help support overall health and symptom management.

Benefits of an anti-inflammatory style of eating can include:

• 🛡️ Supporting immune function - nutrient-dense whole foods provide vitamins, minerals and antioxidants the immune system needs.

• 🔥 Helping manage chronic inflammation - foods rich in omega-3 fats, fibre and antioxidants can support healthy inflammatory pathways.

• 🦠 Supporting gut health - whole grains, vegetables, fruits and legumes provide fibre that helps nourish your gut microbiome.

• ❤️ Supporting heart health - healthy fats, oily fish, nuts, seeds and plenty of plants are associated with better cardiovascular health.

• ⚡ Supporting steady energy levels - building meals around protein, fibre, healthy fats and minimally processed carbohydrates can help keep energy more consistent.

• 💪 Supporting recovery - good nutrition provides the protein and micronutrients your body needs to recover from training and everyday life.

For those with autoimmune conditions, there isn’t one universal “anti-inflammatory diet.” Different conditions and individuals can have different nutritional needs, so avoid unnecessarily cutting out whole food groups unless advised by a qualified healthcare professional.

🥑 Focus on healthy fats
🥦 Eat a wide variety of vegetables
🫐 Include plenty of colourful fruit
🌾 Choose whole grains
🫘 Add beans & legumes
🐟 Prioritise quality protein & omega-3-rich fish
🌿 Use herbs & spices such as turmeric, garlic and rosemary

The goal isn’t perfection - it’s making nutrient-dense whole foods the foundation of your diet more often.
